Formerly: Tight Squeeze
Light copper in colour. Bright hoppy aroma with distinct tangerine & citrus notes, gives way to a strong, crisp hop bitterness on the palate. A lingering dry finish packed with flavour, yet highly sessionable.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From my favourite but now closed The Beer Store on Goyeau St. in nearby downtown Windsor. My fourth beer from the Orleans, Ontario brewery, and third for 2025. Date stamped May 8, 2024. With Gracie the cat...

A straight up the middle of the road IPA. Vibrant pour, bright tangerine orange under a moderate orange tinged head. Not much by way of lace. Smell is subdued, not super hoppy or especially reminiscent of tangerines. Moderately hoppy, no pithiness, moderate fruitiness. Beyond looking a bit like a Star Trek prop, not too memorable.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for $3.35 CDN. Canning date was March 21, 2019.
Appearance - Rich gold, slightly hazy brew. Lots of visible carbonation and topped by a finger of dense frothy white head. Pretty good staying power and minimal lacing at the edges of the glass.
Smell - Tangerine, quite floral and well perfumed. Aromatics are fairly intense, but the perfume qualities are not necessarily indicative of what I'd like to drink.
Taste - Medium bitterness, some tangerine and then a general earthy bitterness afterwards. A little bit flowery and weedy. With a tasty fruit like tangerine headlining, wish it was a little more sweet.
Mouthfeel - Carbonation is fairly expressive, a touch gassy. Body is medium and a little more sticky than usual.
Overall - Not a bad fruited IPA, but certainly not a fave. Could do with a little more sweetness as I find it just bitter on bitter and not enough tropical flavors shining through. Worth a try if this is up your alley.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Mar 21 2019 and served barely chilled.
Pours a foggy orange-amber colour, giving rise to nearly an inch of lumpy, frothy white head that settles off within two or three minutes' time. A generous collar of soapy foam clings to the edges, underneath a fabulous-looking coat of thick, sticky lacing. On the nose, there are some citrusy orange, grapefruit and lemon zest aspects coming through, as well as spicy, floral hop notes and a lightly caramelized, grainy malt sweetness; a few hints of earthy pine, too.
A serviceable brew; it's an IPA first and foremost, with the citrus being more of a complement. Grainy malts and subtle caramel sweetness come through underneath, with notes of tangerine, white grapefruit and melon developing by mid-sip before being shoved aside in the bitter tail end of the sip. It's very earthy and resiny, with floral, herbal hop notes alongside some lingering citrus pithiness; the latter specifically lingers well into the aftertaste. Medium in body, with moderately lively carbonation levels that prickle the palate continuously, lending a much-needed bite to this otherwise fairly slick-feeling brew. Potentially sessionable, in that I probably could drink a few of these in a row, even though I'd rather not.
Final Grade: 3.69, a respectable B grade. Broadhead's Tight Squeeze is old school compared to a lot of the new IPAs showing up on the shelves these days. The citrusy aspects are pleasant enough, but beyond that I found this to be a fairly uninteresting hoppy pale ale. That's not to suggest that it has any crippling flaws or anything: I finished my glass easily enough, and I might return to it in the future, but it's not something I'd deliberately seek out. Try it and judge for yourself.
