Brewed using 15 lbs of coffee from Broadhead's friends @ Fluid Solar Roasted Coffee. Intense coffee aromas and flavours, supported by the easy-drinking nature of an approachable blonde ale.

473 mL can, Day 3 of Nita Beer's 2024 Advent Calendar; dated Oct 15 2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a relatively clear golden blonde colour, producing an inch of soapy, bubbly white head that lasts for two minutes or so. By that point, it has been reduced to a frothy collar and filmy cap, with a serpentine curtain of lace clinging to the glass - looks great so far. Roasted coffee beans dominate the nose, paired with lesser notes of grainy malts, white bread and a faint hint of honey.
Big coffee flavours, especially on the first few sips - later on, over the course of the session, as the glass warmed and my taste buds acclimated, the base blonde ale opened up a little. Grainy, bready malts and biscuity sweetness, with bitter coffee grounds lasting into a slightly malty aftertaste. Light in body, with assertive carbonation that contributes to this brew's crisp, smooth mouthfeel. Great drinkability, assuming you enjoy coffee.
Final Grade: 3.86, a B+. I have had a handful of coffee blondes in the past, and it's pretty much always the same story: lots of coffee flavour, and not enough of anything else. Broadhead's fits snugly into that paradigm - the base blonde ale is alright, but lacks the fortitude to come off as anything more than background noise compared to the coffee. And don't get me wrong, I'm addicted to that stuff, so it's not like I'm opposed to a coffee bomb - in that respect, it might be the most intense coffee blonde I've had to date. My point being that, yeah, it's a one-note deal, but if you're just here for the coffee? I think it delivers.
