Safe Harbor 1790 Lager was selected as the Official Beer for Connecticut's Coast Guard Summer. It takes it's name from the founding year of the United States Coast Guard - 1790.
This is an American-style lager crafted to be very approachable and popular with all beer lovers. Lager represents one of the most easy-drinking of all beer styles.
Fresh and gentle fruit notes, a delicate use of malt and a balanced hint of bitters for a clean, snappy finish. 1790 Lager is medium-bodied, crisp and clean beer with layers of hop aromas, brewed for the perfect balance of flavor and refreshing drinkability.

This was the last beer in mixed pack given to me by a cousin late last year. Never had anything from Safe Harbor before and indeed, this lived up to its billing as this was an easy-drinking beer.
With that being said, there wasn't anything in particular to dislike about this although it could have been more memorable. The cider-like pour was an indication that this wasn't a typical American Lager as the liquid was topped off with a frothy and uneven head that rapidly settled down. Those traits were atypical for an American Lager and the aroma followed suit as the presence of apricot, fruit patch, and herbal notes was not what I expected. The taste followed suit with hints of grain and tea as this reminded me of a old-school beer from Yards. Well-balanced, slightly slick and cloying, and nearly devoid of any overt alcoholic presence, this was a near-sessionable take on the style that left a hint of apple and fall fruit behind once I finished it off.
There were a few big bits of dark sediment that had to be swirled out but otherwise, this held up well during the months that I stored it in my basement. No date was to be found anywhere and the same was true for the ABV% as the label had the look of a WWII poster. While nowhere near outstanding, this was notable for not being like any American Lager that I've reviewed on here. Pick this up during the warmer months when a typical lawnmower beer won't do the trick.

Dirty copper. Rust. Of white head. There was sediment which I poured in. Perhaps should’ve held it back.
Smells floral. With some soft fruity notes, malt.
Taste is the same. Malt sugar, fruit (apricot, plum), spice and herbal bitterness.
Finish is short but lively.
Very nice offering. Plays estery with a fair amount of ale character. I’m gather it’s a colonial style - reminiscent of steam beers. Good offering in spite of the somewhat murky appearance.
