Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 12 oz. can into a Cigar City Brewing goblet.
A: Hazy gold, with a finger's worth of just-off-white head that has great retention. Fairly low visible carbonation.
S: Two row malts up front with some definite husky character. Light citrus hoppiness, and some herbal character in the background. This is notably malt-forward on the nose compared to most APAs available these days.
T: Unfortunately follows the nose. A flat cracker malt sweetness, again with some grainy character. Light citrus hops, and some vegetal hops as well. I think there's some pilsner malt character here as well, which is unwelcome. Light tropical fruity hops in the finish...but even here it's dominated by the cracker malts.
M: A light body, but about average for style. Carbonation sensation is a bit on the low side, and there's no real alcohol presence.
O: Really, this isn't particularly good. If you were looking for a somewhat "more-hoppy-than-kolsch" style beer, I guess it's okay. And it's okay in the sense that there's no off-flavors or infection or anything. But if you’re in the mood for a nice tropical APA in any sense of that word in the last 10-15 years, avoid this beer. I’m still rooting for Barley Mow to do better things, but they’ve yet to hit one for me.
