V. Beauregarde Blue Berry Sour is a Berliner-Style sour ale. Unfiltered with a pleasant tartness and a smooth dry blueberry finish. Much like its namesake, V. Beauregard has plenty of sass. Just don’t drink too many or you may turn into a blueberry.

12oz can. Bottom rim of can is stamped 'CANNED 04/12/22'.
Murky, dirty brown gold colored body. Brief off white head but this disappears in short order. No lacing.
Aroma is pure blueberry muffin, with some semblance to blueberry hard candy.
Taste is a little tart, mostly sweet with a blueberry candy flavor. More tart with blueberry in the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel, with some dryness after each sip. Okay carbonation.
Refreshing with an appealing blueberry candy flavor.

This is about the perfect early summer beer, assuming you don’t want a crisp macro lager.

The color is hazy to the point of being opaque, a color I’d find worrisome in a patient’s foley bag, but that works quite well in a glass.

The smell is strongly blueberry, but stripped of the vegetal smell one associates with the real fruit. Instead, it smells rather like a blueberry muffin, perhaps one with lemon icing.

The taste is tart, but also semi-metallic. It’s not the tart of a Flanders Red-Brown, but it’s also not quite what a typical Berliner Weisse tastes like either, likely because the vanilla provides some blunting of the sour flavor. It’s breadier than expected, and never sweet. The late aftertaste, though, is rather like Fruit Loops cereal, but with little of the cloying sweetness such a description implies.

The mouthfeel is wet, and there’s not a lot of carbonation or physical “bite,” but that’s welcome, since it would compete with the sour flavor in a way I don’t think would be pleasant. What do I know? I’m an American, and we drink our lemonade “flat.”

Mildly cloudy, golden hued body; lots of carbonation; respectable head, foamy and white. Aroma of blueberry muffins. Well-balanced blueberry flavor intermingled with a tart sourness. Medium body; fizzy; acidic with a citrus tanginess.

A decent sour, solid with a prominent but not overpowering blueberry presence. Okay if fruit beers are your thing.

Decent tasting beer, but not 'sour' enough.
