Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Clear 9-oz. plastic cup
From: Liquor King in Fresno, Calif.
Price: $6.99 (educated guess)
Purchased: March 31, 2016
Consumed: April 2, 2016
Misc.: No BOD on bottle
For the life of me I could not remember the price of this. Going with $6.99 for the hell of it. I know this doesn’t have the best reviews (on Untappd, none on Beer Advocate), but it sounded interesting to me. Picked it up in Fresno, Calif., on a work trip as part of a large purchase at Liquor King. Will give it the old college try.
Poured a pitch black color with three fingers of khaki tan, frothy head. Good uneven, foamy lacing on the sides of the cup. Good retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled caramel, roasted toffee, dark urine, vegetables - peas and green beans - and hints of chocolate. (Smell - 3.00)
Tasted slightly better than the nose, but not that good overall. Getting roasted toffee, caramel, metallic notes, some smokiness, faint butterscotch, roasty malts, wood and cooked green vegetables. Alcohol does not taste 9.5 percent, definitely well hidden. (Taste - 3.25)
Medium-to-full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, roasty finish. (Feel - 3.50)
Was a bit disappointed in this one. Would not have it again. (Overall - 3.25)
