Notes / Commercial Description:
Spring got sprung with this funky monkey. We dropped a big stash of Lemondrop hops into both the kettle and the dry hop – delivering a big citrus blast – and topped it off with a Lemongrass addition for a refreshing twist. Light in body with bright citrus notes, this is an extremely complex but very easy drinking brew.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a golden/orange color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of citrus hops. Taste is citrus, a wheat sharpness, hints of lemongrass, highly refreshing. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a beer I may need to revisit during the summer.

Appearance: Semi-clear golden with a full-on off-white head. Ghostly wall of lace.

Aroma: Crisp lemongrass, zest and citrus hops. Nice and unique vibe here.

Taste: Very fruity up front with lemongrass and spice notes. Plenty of wheat malts to balance this exceptionally drinkable ale. Really liked it.

Pours a cloudy golden color with a white head. Retention is minimal but leaves lots of even lacing.
Lemongrass up front in the nose. Finishes with a slight non lingering bitterness.
The taste comes in the same. This is a lemongrass beer for sure. Simple yet delicious
Mouthfeel is refreshing and the carbonation is great for this style.
A hot day type of beer. I would buy this again if i could find it in six packs.

This beer pours from the can to glass with a lite hazy gold color and with a nice off-white lite foam that unfornately disappears quickly.
The aroma is tropical citrus lemony harmony.
The taste has a great smooth citrtus and yes lemongrass flavor to it...very refreshing taste.
Palate is just the same...smooth and flavorful of citrus lemongrass.
I can't wait to use this beer in some of my asian inspired dishes !!!!

A deep gold, thinly hazy beer with an off-white, somewhat lasting, frothy head that leaves a pasty wash of lacing. Aroma brings wheat & bready malt, lemon & other citrus with grass & a faint tropical hint. Taste is similar but with more hop punch. Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with nice carbonation, silky yet lively with a nice peppery prickle. As advertised, a hoppy wheat beer. A wheat based pale ale. Very drinkable.

Bright lemon aroma, with a hint of grass. Pours a clear amber with a thin, white, quickly fading head. Light bodied, with a kiss of lemon and a touch of wheat. A bit early in the season for those of us up north, but this would be a good warm weather drink.

Straw yellow color. Foamy two finger white head. Grassy aromas. Citrusy hop profile, but not as hoppy as an IPA. Has a bite to it, giving way to a smoother wheat character. Lingering citrus finish.

It's light and fairly refreshing, but the hops aren't distinct enough and get lost in the honey malt. I can barely taste the actual lemongrass, but a light touch is appropriate. I know it's a common refrain, but this need more hops.

Looks very good. Just under a finger worth of almost white head. Can see my fingers on the other side of the glass without a problem at all through this golden beer.
Smell is some hops with citrus and earthy notes.
The taste is slight citrus with malt backbone kicking in very quickly to make a big presence in this beer.
Overall, pretty refreshing ale that would be great for summer by a pool.

6/16/17...light cloudy copper, partial see through. Low foam. Bright citrus fresh nose. Hints of the lemongrass that was used. Clean juicy taste, some citrus, deep bitter close. Really grassy taste. Very unusual.

Pours a cloudy amber color. One inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of fresh pale malt, sweet malt, Belgian yeast, and a hint of citrus hops. Fits the style of an American Pale Wheat Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of pale malt, citrus hops, slight wheat, hint of sweet malt, and maybe maybe a hint of lemongrass. Overall, good appearance and feel, decent aroma and body, but lacking in lemongrass.

A: Hazy orange color, 1 inch off white head, good lacing

S: Pine, floral hops, bread

T: I get the lemongrass up front, the pine and floral hops come in then balanced with a nice malty sweetness

M: Medium

O: I was expecting more of a wheat beer taste but got more of a pale ale taste. A good beer just not what I expected.

A: Pours a hazy medium golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass, light to moderate amounts of fine visible yeast particulates in suspension, and faint amber colored highlights. The beer has a tow finger tall sudsy foamy white head that reduces to a couple of small patches of thin film surrounded by a large patch of very thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of lemongrass over the top of light aromas of wheat malts. Light hints of citrus/lemon + floral hops.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of wheat malts with just a hint of sweetness. That is followed by just shy of moderate flavors of lemongrass. Finally there are light flavors of citrus/lemon + floral hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which does not linger for long.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Initially crisp with a hint of dryness in the finish.

O: Enjoyable though the lemongrass does become a touch overwhelming/tiring towards the end of the beer. An interesting concept but would of been better is the lemongrass was a touch more subtle,

Sweetwater Brewing Co. "Grass Monkey"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "BEST IF ENJOYED BY: 07/02/17" and sampled on 05/18/17
$2 @ Weis Market #231, Conshohocken, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: "BOTTLE CONDITIONED FOR FRESHER TASTE" ~ I can get behind that. It pours a cloudy golden body with visible chunks of sediment in suspension beneath a frothy head of white. The head retention doesn't seem to be too great as it's dropping before my eyes, but it still has a solid surface covering. Only a few spots and splashes of lacing are left behind. The aroma is initially reminiscent of a bar of fine milled hand soap, floral and lemony, but not quite perfumey. It's pleasant, unusual, and not at all off-putting. As might be expected, the flavor follows. It's interesting, and charming, and really quite unique. I'm not sure how well it would hold up throughout a full glass, but certainly in repeat servings I'd think it might become too much. It's pretty nicely balanced though, and the wheat comes through, so maybe as it warms it will soften a bit. Medium bodied and crips. Dry finish with a little bit of bitterness lingering. Overall nicely done. I'm not quite sure how to rate it as I've never had anything quite like it. I guess it's just an American Wheat ale. A refreshing change of pace. I could see buying a few more of these for the summer.

I am really starting to see progress in the eradication of The Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody, plus as an unexpected bonus, I am able to do a number of brewery horizontals, some more extensive than others. This beer marks the continuation of one such occasion with one more of SweetWater's beers to follow.

From the bottle: "Catch & Release Seasonal"; "Bottle Conditioned for Fresher Taste"; "Spring just got sprung with this funky monkey. We dropped a big stash of Lemondrop hops into both the kettle and the dry hop - delivering a big citrus blast - and topped it off with a Lemongrass addition for a refreshing twist. Light in body with bright citrus notes, this is an extremely complex but very easy drinking brew."; "That Funky Monkey!"; "Hoppy Wheat Ale with Lemongrass".

I am slowly coming to the realization that most, if not all, of their beers are bottle-conditioned. It is both fine by me & not a problem, since I have embraced the idea of a slow, gentle pour following the Pop! of the cap. I did just that on this occasion, followed by an in-glass swirl to raise two-plus fingers of foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with modest retention which left nice lacing in its wake. Color was a faintly hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose had a soft, lemony citrusiness, like lemon chiffon or something equal to it. It was lemony, but not pungent or overpowering. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste had a very pleasant, light lemony flavor, almost tea-like in its mellowness. It was the sort of thing that would be extremely pleasant on a hot, humid summer day or with a meal of oriental food. Finish was semi-dry to dry and highly refreshing as a whole. I liked the way that it had a lemony flavor without being overwhelming.

I bought this off the Binny's single shelf. It poured a cloudy, with floating, which I hate....along with white head and no lace. The scent had hints of citrus and lemon grass. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink. Pleasant presence of lemon. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a decent beer.

Light golden in color with ample carbonation and average head. Aromas of lemon and light malt. Taste is very light with light citrus and not much else. It is very refreshing but could use a little more complexity and finish.

Grass Monkey brewed by SweetWater Brewing Company, with an ABV of 5.40% This American Pale Wheat Ale pours out a slight cloudy amber color with a nice white head. This is an unfiltered brew you can not see though this brew. There is also a decent amount lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is rich in sweetness, spices and grassy grains and malts. There is also some nice mild hops in the smell of this brew. The smell is really inviting. Now for the taste, it is smooth with flavors. You pick up on some nice Curtis flavors and grins and malts. It has the feel of most wheat brews on the market, not saying that is a bad thing. There is alot some nice mild hops in the taste of this brew. The body of this brew is a soild medium. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a real nice balance to it. This is one nice drinking wheat IPA. The mouth feel of Grass Monkey is sweet, Rich, Clean, Smooth, and Refreshing. Overall I'm giving Grass Monkey a 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again. SweetWater Brewing Company, did a real nice job with this brew.

Look - cloudy, lemon yellow. A two finger head that leaves some lacing behind.
Smell - a mixture of various citrus flavors: lemon, orange, and citrusy hops.
Taste - light and refreshing, but full of flavor. The hops and the tart flavor (I'm guessing from the lemongrass) balances well, creating a slightly bitter (and tart) aftertaste. Despite the hoppiness, the wheat flavor still comes through, giving this beer the feel of a fusion of two different styles. Really interesting.
Feel - Light bodied with medium carbonation. Very easy to drink.
Overall - I really enjoyed this beer. An excellent summer beer that is light and citrusy but not overly sweet like some of the summer brews I've had. I hope Sweetwater extends this seasonal release through late August.

Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a little sediment, most was reserved in the bottle. A quickly dying head left some sticky lace on its way out.

Citrusy, floral aroma with lemons, grapefruit, hay and lemongrass very noticeable.

The flavor has hop bitterness, lemon, grass, lemongrass, and some floral elements heavy on the palate, little standard malt or wheat notes jump out beyond a balancing sweetness.

Well carbonated and light bodied, this is an easy drinking beer with lemon drop hops and lemongrass flavors that linger.

Overall, it's a pretty succesful and refreshing brew. The lemon drop hops and lemongrass work well together here. Good beer.

Grass Monkey | SweetWater Brewing Company. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this brew's got a three finger thick head, with solid lacing, and a hazed medium gold body.

Smells like nice and bright wheat ale elements with the lemongrass doing a stand up job livening up the overall aroma. Hops are lighter/ more floral than anything.

I taste an invigorating blend of the smell. Damned quenching, too! Again, the hops are less-pronounced here.

Medium-light mouthfeel with fair carbonation.

Overall, I'l rate Grass Monkey | SweetWater Brewing Company with a 4. Nothing outstanding by any means, yet a solid example nontheless.

-Hoppy wheat ale with lemongrass. Best before 05.03.17. Consumed fresh on 03.24.17. in spiegelau ipa glass.

A: Bright orange color, frothy chalk white head at 0.25 inches has a lasting appeal. Deep dense haze with nice sense of turbid matter drifting about in the fine misty effervesce. Thick, milky ring lacing.

S: Fresh pineapple, juicy lemon and oranges. Some fruity peach juice, wet citrus and crisp pale malt sweetness. Nice level of awareness.

T: Flavor was spritzy bar lemon fizz and wheat malts. Lightly tart, dry orange is backed by the name-sake of grassy hop character of more then adequate proportion. Dry grassy pine against some wheat gives this an american hop appeal wheat of ipa proportions with a tart-orange-grass finish of dry hops that lingers on quite a bit.

M: Crisp, tart, and dry with a good carbonation factor and sharp tingle on the tongue.

O: A nice tart summer time hoppy wheat with a good amount of soda pop carbonation activity makes this a quencher with a dry hoppy finish that will make you keep drinking more. At 5.4% light enough to enjoy in multiples with a high ibu satisfaction. Aroma is very wet, sweet, and fruity, the flavor is more old school, dry hopped grassy content.
