Tasted On: 12-10-2011
Freshness: Unknown
Packaging: Cask
Glassware: Snifter
Purchased: On tap at the 12th South Winter Warmer
Color is a dark brown or black, with a tan head. Nice lacing sticks to the glass.
Aromas are malt-forward and spicy, with a noticeable dose of peppermints. Nice!
The taste starts as the regular version of Festive Ale, and then you get the peppermint flavors in the back of your mouth. Very tasty and balanced; I could see this being over the top minty, but they had just the right amount added. The sweetness is a big component, but its not cloying.
The finish is malty sweet and spicy, with a good amount of the mint lingering. Body is medium and carbonation is low.
Overall I really liked this beer - it took a very good beer in the Festive Ale and made it better with the peppermint.
