"This 11% ABV, blended cask is our rendition of a Quad cellared in an American bourbon barrel for 10 months and blended with another Quad cellared in a French Bordeaux barrel with Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus for 10 months. This fusion was then topped off with out adaptation of a Tripel that was cellared for 28 months with fresh blackberries in a French Bordeaux barrel."
Appearance: Served a clear albeit dark beer, very dark brown in appearance, though ABFoD is hinting tints of amber at the edges underneath a scant, loose head.
Smell: A scent of red sangria that's tart, fragrant, punchy, and fruity atop mild wood tannins, dark reserved malts, and a pinch of finely-ground spices.
Taste: An initial dark maltiness hinting of caramel and chocolate, though only lightly sweet, even at the best of times. Vibrant tannic oakiness and richly vinous throughout. Has a nice degree of fruitiness throughout. Subtle earthy spice. Musty, funky yeasts, though comparatively restrained add to the complexity. Vinous, warming finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Low level of carbonation.
Overall: Tasty. With Sweetwater growing and expanding in leaps and bounds, maybe we can see more well-executed wild blends like this. Just a thought.
