Santa brought us a new hop back this year. One of our brewers got overly excited and a very merry mix up occurred, resulting in Jolly Folly IPA—a beer dominated by resinous, spicy hops. Its piney, floral aroma yields to a full malty flavor that is nicely balanced by multiple layers of citrus and tropical hop flavors. ‘Tis the season for an exceptional IPA.

Picked up a bomber from TW Arrowhead in mid-January for $3.99. Best by 05.25.16.
Beer poured golden orange with a beautiful white head that is leaving lacing behind.
Nose is light citrus and tropical fruits.
Taste initially was very tropical including mango, citrus, and now pine is showing up after the initial handful of sips. The malt base is bready like a good APA. Finish is piney but nice without the resin slick.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, kind of smooth and kind of lively.
Overall this brew has a very nice flavor, bread with a hint of the tropics. i did buy one bottle i shared with a friend on Super Bowl Sunday and the second bottle was marked down on discount which TW does not do very often considering the age of a lot of their inventory. If this has been refrigerated give it a shot!

Bottle poured into a Green Flash Brewing Co pint glass
A: Pours slightly hazy golden amber with a frothy cream white head that settles to a dense layer and leaves some very nice lacing.
S: Spicy resinous pine, tropical and fruity, citrus, bready malt, and some caramel sweetness.
T: Resinous pine, spicy, citrus zest, orange and a little grapefruit, tropical fruit comes out as it warms, mango, passion fruit, and hints of melon, earthy herbal notes, bready malt, and just enough caramel sweetness. Nicely balanced.
M: A bit on the fuller side of medium body, moderate carbonation.
O: This is the Bob Ross of beers. Quite a tasty happy accident.

Lightly hazy pale orange... nice white head.. good lacing... Draft at a Bittercreek for the GF tap takeover.. Big ole SoCal Citrus hoppiness combines with some piney and floral notes that seem to jive perfectly.. Pale maltiness is there, and seems a bit heavy... For my palate, this could have finished drier.

Color is an orangey amber in the Troubadour tulip with foam that renews with each sip. The aroma is really splendid-- orange, gardenia, and mango. Flavor is quite citrusy with a touch of apricot. Moderate bitterness adds to the drinkability.
Seriously fruity and just sweet enough, more like a double IPA. This seems to be an above-average IPA that I am inclined to try again. We'll see if they actually made enough to see this in stores for a while. I think it would sell out if people tried it. Give it some more malt for a real Christmas beer next winter.

Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Hardwood Artisans pint glass
From: Alpine Beer Company tasting room in Alpine, Calif.
Price: $7.00
Purchased: Dec. 26, 2015
Consumed: Dec. 26, 2015
Misc.: Best by May 25, 2016 (really?); Was told by bartender that it was a mix of (Green Flash) Alpine’s Pure Hoppiness and Green Flash Soul Style
Poured a caramel, orange, hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of off-white, frothy head. Some slow moving bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Very good uneven, spiderweb, foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Above average retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled a pleasant whiff of hops up front, mainly floral, citra, resin, mosaic and simcoe (I think). Also tangerine, pine and light red grapefruit rind. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted pretty much like I thought it was going to after the nose. Got citra hops, resin, nugget hops, floral hops, pine, earthy orange rind, lingering spicy simcoe, tropical notes and another hop that I can’t quite put my tongue on. Very boozy though. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, boozy, abrupt finish. (Feel - 3.75)
This beer was OK, but I was really expecting more. Not as balanced as it could have been and booziness really dominates. Just all over the place. (Overall - 3.75)

Best by 5/25/16.
Pours a hazy orange with a foamy tan head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Tiny particles of sediment are seen suspended in the beer after the pour. Smell is of citrus zest, earth, pine needle, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest, grapefruit juice, melon, pine needle, and herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with an especially interesting melon flavor that makes this one fairly unique.

very strong, pungent sweetness to the aroma, christmas-y, if you will... lots of citrus and tropical fruit. after-pine flavor and bitterness. overall, not a bad IPA and probably one of the more likable ones from Green Flash, in my opinion.
