Pretty amber. Nice head. Very bitter piney hops, so it's a nice change of pace. The after taste is what makes me like it. Some unexpected spice from a Simon and Garfunkel song. With Haleys at Cock and Bull.

Pours a little hazy with a light copper and creamy head. The nose just goes and goes with a lemony basil scent that's so nice you don't want to stop to drink it because you know that you won't smell that again... however, I did taste. I was not dissapointed either. This may be my favorite Green Flash IPA over all but maybe Palate Wrecker. It has very distinct piney flavors (distinctness lacking in something like the West Coast) and long finish. The finish is pretty bitter and stays on the tongue begging for more. Nice.

Dark gold in color with a fingernail of off white on top. Heavy lacing is present. Excellent clarity. Aroma is a blend of pale malt and citrus hops. I taste a strong citrus hop presence in the foreground. It quickly fades into the light malt. This is a thirst quencher. There's some light chewiness but it is overall fairly smooth.

Sampled at World Expo of Beer in Frankenmuth, Michigan.

As usual, Green Flash brings it. This is a pretty freakin' intensely bitter IPA. Definitely more on the "juicy" side of things, with a bit more malt than is usually seen in an IPA. Despite the color/amount of malts, it's a quite bitter IPA... bitter enough that I don't think this is an IPA I could drink much of. The flavor there is most definitely good though, and it's overall refreshing.

Enjoyable, but definitely not Green Flash's best effort.

Obtained as part of the 2008 BIF race package from Eyedrinkale, 2008 Symposium IPA came in a 12 oz. bottle with a surfing themed label. The beer poured very clear, pale golden in color, and had a stable head at two fingers thick. Like the looks, the smell was also standard West Coast IPA fare with spicy, pney, citric hops dominating. The taste was bit more complex than typical for the style, as the hop bitterness and spice was matched up with a malt bill sufficient to yield 7% ABV and give some sweet backbone. Finish was citric sour and dry. The body felt thick enough to hold up the flavor but was not sticky. Another well made example of the style.

P.S. - Available in Georgia as of April 2015.

Have always been impressed with Green Flash beers and Symposium IPA is a great reason why. Very complex and flavorful brew. Beautiful hazy golden color with thin head and nice lacing. Lots of tropical and floral notes with a little tobacco and pine in the background. Slightly sweet malt works well to accentuate all the flavors and Symposium has a long bitter finish. 7.0 ABV but feels even higher. Without a doubt one of the most flavorful IPA's you will ever drink. Another feather in the cap for Green Flash.

L - Amber/gold w/ some lacing

S- tropical fruit, sweet malt, dank

T- complex, bread/malt sweetness and tropical fruits up front ...to citrus/grapefruit to bitter herbal and grapefruit rind. Lingering bitter herbal/grapefruit rind on the finish.

F- medium - Oily/resin first, then carbonation and somewhat dry...Oil/resin lingers after carbonation subsides.

O- very complex and well done. A bit heavy on bitter/herbal side for my taste, but a great beer.

Pours a medium amber with a thin white head that holds on throughout the beer. Leaves a smidge of sticky lacing. The aroma is mild citrus and floral hops. The taste is much more robust citrus hops, mostly grapefruit, a little malt sweetness, and a little floral hops, too. The body is nice, a little lighter, with just a little bite from the hops.

Bottle poured into a Green Flash pint glass

A: Pours slightly hazy golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles and laces beautifully.

S: Herbal, some pine, a little citrus, and a touch of light caramel malt.

T: Resinous pine, citrus, grapefruit rind, little lemon and orange, hints of tropical fruit, dank herbal notes, and a touch of light caramel malt sweetness.

M: On the fuller side of medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Good strong brew, right on the boarder of my preferred flavor profile, but well done.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 5/4/2015. Pours slightly hazy orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, herbal, floral, grass, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of bright citrus/pine hops and light-moderate dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, herbal, floral, grass, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Large amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange zest, citrus rind, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and balance of bright citrus/pine hops and light-moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and resinous sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent IPA. All around great complexity and balance of bright citrus/pine hops and light-moderate dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

22oz bottle poured into a large mug. Best by date is 05/04/15. 30404B0051801

Pours pretty clear, orange/yellow, with a big nice head that fades slowly in a mattress. Seems to be starting a sheet of lacing along the side. Smell is a little hay, a little wet greens, a little pine.

Taste is sadly reminding me of old hops. Not too far gone. Strong ambiguous bitter finish. Some pine, intense grapefruit rind bitterness.

Mouthfeel is moderately thick, a little filmy. Overall, not bad.

Bomber to snifter. Pours a light orange color with some chill haze. Smells like a dank hop bouquet. Taste is very hop forward. I'm getting a citrusy flavor up front and a predominantly resinous pine aftertaste. Little pepper flavor on the back end. This is really drinkable. My first Green Flash beer and I will definitely be sampling more. Good IPA!

Woody, herbal nose with light mint, bread and biscuit. Pours gold with a slight haze under a big, stiff soapsuds style persistent off-white foam cap. Turns bright as it warms. It is creamy, juicy and fruity on the front of the palate becoming bitter and dry on the finish. Medium to medium full body, rich creamy texture created by fine soft carbonation. A big, bold beer that is surprisingly easy to drink.

A: hazy; burnt orange colored; 1 finger off white head that receded to a thin collar; very nice lacing;

S: tropical fruit and earthy with mint and black pepper behind that;

T: tropical fruit, earthy, and malt sweetness up front; finish is long lasting and dry with a little grapefruit;

M: medium bodied; moderate to high carbonation; alcohol is lightly warming;

O: interesting, but not a personal favorite;

On tap. Pours a cloudy orange color with a thin head. Aroma is blatantly hoppy. The hops are perfumey and floral. Citrusy, too. Malt is more than noticeable. Flavor is individual. It makes me smack my lips. Hard to truly describe what the hops are specifically donating to my taste buds. Bittersweet overall flavor. Floral hops and plump citrus hops. Another West Coast hop attack from Green Flash. It has a unique flavor from the hops which slightly differentiates itself from many West Coast IPAs. Resinous. Lip-smacking hoppiness. Plenty of bready, caramelly malt. Finishes dry after the sweetness subsides. Medium body and carbonation. Not too shabby.

On tap at Claddaghs

Appearance: Copper amber color with a finger off white head

Smell: a ton of peppery malt and slight citrus

Taste: Upfront is the same peppery malt character as the nose, but finishes citrus. Sort of has that dank resinous quality

Mouthfeel: This is where this beer shines in my opinion. Medium body, crisp upfront with a bitter dry finish

Overall: This is an above average IPA, but doesnt really strike me fancy. It has too much peppery qualoty to it and not enough bright fruits that i prefer. However, there is a nice citrus finish. This brewery makes some awesomely dry and bitter mouthfeels. I prefer some of GF other IPAs over this

Poured a seethru copper body with one finger head and lace ring down glass. Citric hop aroma with some bitter earthiness/dirt to hops. Hopped up brew that's enjoyable but not much more than some citric hops with possible grapefruit sweetness and a little bit of maltiness. Not much more to elaborate on as this is an OK but not spectacular brew.

Poured a copper color with a 3F head in Spiegelgau glass. The head quickly resolved itself.

Aroma: different than other Green Flash IPAs. Possibly the Tomahawk hops. This beer is less citrus, heavy on the pine. Pungent, Earthy pine.

The mouth feel is very carbonated.

Taste: transitions well from the aroma. Earthy pine. Some citrus.

The finish is a sharp and hoppy.

Overall: an excellent IPA. However, I personally prefer more citrus in an IPA. The beer packs a lot of flavor in 7%.

BBD of 05/4/15

Pours an effervescent copper/orange with 2 fingers of eggshell colored head. Great lacing & head retention

S: Minty & catty, with some tobacco, grapefruit

T: Follows the nose, orange & grapefruit rind up front, some pineapple too. Leafy & grassy hops as this warms, faint breadyness, more grapefruit, some dryness & orange peel. Finishes dry, a little piney, with grapefruit rind & a little breadyness

MF: Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, skews over carbonated towards the end., nicely balanced

Pretty good, not great, drinks easy enough, hops didn't completely blend that well. Id like that Green Flash is rolling the dice & taking chances, not all come up 7s or 11s...

Quite handsome orangey amber with a long-lasting pure white foam in the tall Maredsous goblet. Pleasant enough citrus and pine aroma.

This just seems like the classic old-school bitter bomb that made San Diego famous. It's all about the grapefruit pith. So sharp and acidic it's hard to drink. Harsh but clean bitter bite. Dry and unforgiving.

For slaves to the hop goddess only. My mouth is still salivating involuntarily. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Barons Market in San Diego.

A 22oz bomber picked up Jan 2015 at Total Wine Perimeter GA

L - Pale yellow, with 2 fingers of head, clarity, and lace left all over the glass

S - A hopgasm explosion. Mostly bitter hops but some citrus notes come through as well

T - Bitter and grapefruit! Nice malty backbone, and hidden ABV. Tasty as hell

F - Medium bodied and bitter finish.

O - A combination of West Coast, Palate Wrecker, and green bullet. Another great IPA from Green Flash

i love ipa, always have, always will, but it has lately baffled me that green flash keeps putting out one after the other, and some not all that different from their predecessors. this is great ipa by any standard, but sort of combines the gross overbittered nature of palate wrecker with the hop intensity of a green bullet, and a mouthfeel not way different from west coast ipa, at least on the grain side of things. im all for small tweaks and improvements and experimentation, thats how we evolve and learn as brewers, but this just doesnt seem all that distinct from the rest of the green flash ipa portfolio. it is tasty and insanely bitter, but froths up nicely on the palate with great carbonation and a jovial fruity finish among the bitterness. it lasts forever after the swallow, and is well made beer, as they all are, but i just dont really see its contribution to the whole, as in, i will happily drink it, but it doesnt add much.

Pours an amber, copper color with a 1 1/2 finger white head. The nose is delicious, probably the best part. It us citrus and pine up front, with notes of pomelo, orange, papaya, lemon zest and a soft sweet malt. The flavor is really good, more bitter than the nose would have you believe. Heavy emphasis on the grapefruit.
