a neat can of beer, in collaboration with g5 and mashlab and maybe some others, brewed at high hops. its a really deep and flavorful take on the style, and darn good i reckon! clear on the pour, but a deep mahogany color, even ruby hued, and with some obvious body, almost looks like an old ale or a barleywine or something, frothy headed, tan and creamy and over an inch high, really splendid looking brew. smells long boiled, a little concentrated and cooked down, caramelized, and rich. less german than expected for the style, the grain might have some european character, but the yeast seems kind of basic and less classic to me, baked like a pretzel, but also doughy still, not drying this out as well as it could, but still somehow kind of crisp and complete at the end, which i really like about this, its just not as flavorful from that component. tons of awesome malt flavors though, fresh tasting and intense for the style, an entire level richer and bolder than we are used to from the imports, a very colorado sort of take on a marzen, which i think is what sets this apart. this is a really successful beer, bigger and more robust than almost any of its peers. perhaps the parties involved in creating this one should keep on teaming up. this is excellent, if a little divergent from the traditional...
