a tasty and well made red ale with more than one little twist. its a little hazy rust colored under a frothing inch of thick tan foam, gorgeous beer really, even in the plastic cup they serve it to me in at cheba hut. the smell is of sturdy caramelized and kilned type malts, nutty and a little sweet but not over the top, honey is obvious, bright and floral with a little citrus note that pulls up the hops. the hemp, so i thought, was a seed addition somewhere along the brewing process, maybe in the mash, we have all seen this before, but for whatever reason, this hits me hard in a weed way, like a strong edible. obviously there isnt supposed to be thc or other cannabinoids in here (right?!), but this actually gave me a strong body high, with a little head haze. i smoked nothing prior, and this was my first beer of the day, so the high has no other explanation. it wasnt at all unpleasant, but they probably have some tweaking to do and a potential liability on their hands with this, id love to know more about the process. the beer itself is good, it warms up well, showcases the honey well, has both bready and bitter aspects later on, and a smooth feel. its a well made beer no doubt, i have always liked what high hops does, but this one gives new meaning to their name! anyone else experience the body high from this beer? placebo effect? i think not...
