An authentic traditional strong ale aged in whisky barrels for 2 months. A rich, dark, nutty chestnut beer with smoky, vanilla wooden notes and a distinctive, smooth, bitter warmth from the whisky.

Made with traditional Fuggles & Goldings and Pale & Crystal malts.

330ml bottle given to me by a supplier.

Poured as nice dark brown reddish colour wth some head which died slowly. Left some lacing

Nice nose. Whisky comes through a little with dark fruit and some hop fruit and some toastiness.

Palate is very nice. I thoughjt the whiskey came through with a little vanilla. Not particularly complex bunt nice.

Mouth is quite full - smooth.

Overall a very nice beer. Well balanced, not too bitter and very smooth.

Recommended.

This looks, tastes and smells to me like a premium bitter. Nothing bad or great about it. I don't taste any whisky barrel, although there may be trace notes of smoke, wood, vanilla, and nuts as described on the label. In my opinion, if you're going to describe them on the label, they should be strongly evident in the beer to the average beer drinker, not just to the experienced tasting connoisseur. The vanilla and other tastes come through a little more as it warms, but still not enough whiskey to use whisky in the name. All in all, this beer was a disappointment, but it's only because I was expecting a lot more based on the bottle description - but not bad for just a bottled bitter.

I didn't had high hopes. And let's face it, the beer doesn't scream oak and whiskey barrel. But I genuinely enjoyed this beer!
Nose: dark malt- floral yeast. Not much of dark roasted notes...
Tongue: nice good bitterness, which is counterpointed by maltiness - bitter oak notes?
Afterthought: it is rather clean and rather sort...
Eye: dark Amber

Verdict: the only problem I have with this beer is, that it doesn't taste what you could expect nor how it looks. But given, that you don't have here (UAE) a lot of craft beer selection, it is definitely one of the highlights!
