Finally, I get to tick off one of the few styles that I’ve still yet to have with this Imperial Pilsner! I’ve heard many breweries are producing them these days, but this is personally the first one I’ve ever seen. So naturally I had to pick it up and check it out
Pours a slightly cloudy yellow gold with 2 fingers of creamy white head that fades to a thin cap and leaves decent lacing
Perhaps it’s a bit more substantial, but this pretty much smells like a regular Pilsner. I’m picking up on aromas of bready malt, honey, white pepper, herbal hops, orange zest, and a touch of apple skin
In taste, it is quite a bit more aggressive, but I’m not sure I love it. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting herbal hops, bready malt, lemon zest, light toffee, and toasted grain. The swallow brings notes of crackery malt, honey, herbal hops, black pepper, and toasted grain
A medium body pairs with moderate prickly carbonation, resulting in a crisp and zesty beer. Finishes slightly sticky but still bitter
I’m sure this is technically done nicely (though I’m not sure), but I don’t love it. Nothing wrong with it per se, it just feels a bit too aggressive. I’d still be interested in trying more of the well known versions of the style
