Reviewed from (long-standing) notes. The bottle was purchased at the opening of the Seminole Heights location, and enjoyed shortly thereafter. Poured from the 500mL bottle into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.
A: Hazy orange-gold, with a thin white head that doesn't last. A fairly low amount of visible carbonation.
S: Lemon-forward citric and lactic tart acids. Pale two-row malt body with (I think) a little wheat fullness. Mild strawberry fruitiness as well. Some musty barnyard character, but this is not huge. No rhubarb tart or bitter aroma that I can pick out on the nose though.
T: Lactic tart and a big kick of lemony tart citric acidity. Strawberry fruitiness overlays the cracker malts and modest saison barnyard mustiness. There’s a mild vegetal quality that I think is the rhubarb, but it’s not a big flavor. It finishes tart with a lingering berry fruitiness.
M: Light body, low alcohol presence. Average carbonation - more than suggested by the appearance.
O: A very drinkable beer. It isn’t nearly the strawberry-rhubarb effort from New Glarus, nor (more locally) Orange Belt Brewing (or Cycle...not sure which was officially responsible for that beer). The flavors just didn’t come through nearly as much. But it’s a nicely constructed, moderately tart saison with some complimentary, if ill-defined, fruity additive flavors. I wouldn’t turn my nose up at this for sure.
