December 15th, 2015 - I still don't understand Old(e) ales as a style yet, but I do know my gingerbread, and it's never often very good in a beer. But Lone Tree's Christmas-in-a-cup os surprisingly decent, with a sweet gingerbread and cherry scent, but with the cherry more forward and deeper, much like in a Belgian Strong Ale. The flavor isn't cloying either, tasting much like a well made oatmeal raisin cookie with just a drizzle of frosting. The beer is still definitively sweet, but not overtly so, with some cherry in the back end to ramp down from the sugar appeal of the brew.
