Had on tap at Four Horsemen.
A- Pours a clear medium pink color. One finger light pink head shows medium retention. Lace on the sides of the glass is light and only in small streaks.
S- I get a real raspberry aroma in the front of the nose. This gives way to a light bitter hop and some grainy aroma. The raspberry comes back for a second before it is muddled with a stronger alcohol aroma.
T- Upon first sip I get a nice clean raspberry flavor that is quite good. Almost right away this first flavor dies and is overtaken by a strong bitter hop bite. This kind of dies down to a light grainy bill flavor in the middle of the beer. Some raspberry comes back in the ending along with the bitter hop bite but this time the hop bite is a little lighter. Alcohol dominates the very back end killing off all other flavors.
M- Light mouthfeel. Carbonation was a little on the high side I thought for the beer. Raspberry and bitter hops are left on the palate. Aftertaste is mostly warm alcohol, hint of raspberry, and strong bitter hop. Flavors were very off balance with one just crashing into another without much thought. No real off flavors in the beer while I was drinking. High alcohol drying on the palate.
O- This beer was interesting as it didn't drink like a normal raspberry ale did. A lot have the sweet raspberry flavor all the way through and this one had a strange bitter hop bite directly after you tasted raspberry. I didn't mind the flavor at all really I just think it wasn't what these guys were going for.
