these guys are rad, the idea of this beer is super cool, and the whole cave aged outlaw series thing is really compelling too, but this one just didnt stack up for me, not sure why, seems somewhat amateurish despite their other wild stuff being quite good in my experience and the really sexy packaging (seriously these bottles and labels look awesome!). pink colored beer, golden to copper underneath that, clear until the bottom, but kind of still looking and without a ton of the malbec grape character in the nose or the taste, more wine than fruit to me, almost like wine blended in, a lighter rose of sorts, i miss the dark natural fruit and its juice, and i miss the intensity i expected it to contribute. it smells like the pink sparkingling grape juice that kids drink while their parents drink champagne on new years eve, sweet and tart, but not real complex. the wild side of this is a little dirty too, sweaty and not refined, bretty, but cheap and quick rather than woody and mature, almost like it was too warm down in the cave, or like something less desirable or even infectious was in the barrel before the beer hit it. strange and unfitting acidity, but its not real sour, just a real odd and not amazing yeast complexion for a beer where that element should be the best aspect of it. both the yeast and the grape parts are lackluster, and the beer as a whole is drinkable and interesting, but not as good as it should be. still, stoked to have been hooked up with this bottle from the awesome crew in here, and maybe wish i let this one develop a little longer in the cellar to get more nuanced and carb up. if you have on in your cellar, take your time... the less good of the two outlaw series beers i had from these guys this week.

Pours a hazy sort of amber-peach color. Big fluffy head which sticks around for several minutes before retracting into patchy lacing.

Aroma is tart and fruity. There's a light funk, some earth and floral undertones.

Taste is mildly tart. Brett funk. Vineous notes from the wine. Light bready malt.

The mouthfeel is thick. High carbonation. Full body. Goes down well.

I was intrigued going in and was not let down. Great balance of saison and brett funkiness with the wine. I was worried the vineous notes were going to overpower everything else, but it's a wonderful blend of flavors.
