Special version of Imperial Hodad, matured in bourbon barrels that previously held maple syrup, exclusive for Julio's Liquors
Pours a tan frothy fizzy 1/2 finger head with fair retention, some soapy lacing, mild legs, very dark mahogany brown color barely any light getting through
Nose starts with the adjuncts, maple syrup, vanilla, toasted coconut, toasted blondie brownie batter with coconut and milk chocolate, baking spices, cookie dough, a bit of coffee and roast, coffee and cream, faint hint of barrel and maybe bourbon, toasted sweet bread and caramel
Taste comes on sweet with more adjuncts, caramel, sweet condensed milk, coconut milk, maple syrup, sweet coffee cream, milk chocolate and caramel candy bar, baking spices, nougat, toasted marshmallow, more maple syrup, plenty of vanilla but raw vanilla not barrel, no real dark roasted malts with the roasted coffee, little bitterness from the roast and touch of hop, sticky sweet finish, a bit of smooth alcohol late, lingering creamy chocolate coconut nougat marshmallow candy bar
Mouth is fuller bod, a touch syrupy, med carb, light warming smooth alcohol
Overall not bad, a bit too heavy loaded on the adjuncts and not so much on the base stout, barrel brought plenty of maple but like no whiskey or barrel which is what I would have liked to round off all the sweet, this was borderline pastry stout unfortunately. Glad I only got one.
