i get the idea of mingling tropical hops with coconut, but the coco on this brew was overwhelming. i was drawn in by the aroma of pineapple and coconut, but the effect across the tongue was similar to biting into the center of a mounds bar. the sweetness of the coconut overpowered the hop bitterness, lasting well into the finish. alcohol was not pronounced, fortunately, or i would have likened this to dumping a frozen pina colada into a glass of ipa. i found the experience unbalanced, and i would probably turn down one of these in favor of most other west coast ipas.

New batch released yesterday @ the source.

A: Pours a clear orange with a quarter-inch thick white head which fades to a thin cap and yields some puzzle lace.

N: Wonderful zesty oranges/citrus followed by coconut and some vanilla in the mix.

T: A bit singular pronounced citrus (mainly orange with some grapefruit) with faint coconut and vanilla.

M: Medium body and semi-moderate carbonation. Dry, bitter and citrusy finish.

O: Nice and reminds me of a cinnamon-less, hoppy chip shot.

On cask for The Bruery Sucreversary held at The Phoenix Club in Anaheim, CA.

Pours a hazy blue-green with a foamy off-white head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of pineapple, coconut, citrus fruit, and sugar aromas. Taste is much the same with pineapple, coconut, and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that looks weird but tastes just like the tropical drink mixed with a citrus forward IPA.
