i love these guys, and while this isnt as awesome as the oude funk they did, its pretty rad too. its three different brett strains fermenting the same brew aged in red wine barrels and blended together, dope. its red in color, much darker than i expected it to be, and very murky, looks less refined than others, but very lively with two inches of pure white foam head on it. the nose is more red wine fruitiness and tannins than it is brett, and although the beer seems complete, not sweet and under attenuated or anything, the brett doesnt seem particularly pungent or mature here, and i wonder if i opened the bottle up too soon. a drier, more effervescent and funky version would be amazing. the wine and wood flavor this a lot, and i dig that, and there is a rather substantial grain base to it. lots going on, and the brett strains seem to be just one element at work here. as much as i feel like this could be improved upon in the fermentation aspects, i really like how different this is, tart but not acidic and quite odd overall. curious brew, i would love to grab another one and forget about it for a year or two...

Tropical and fruity nose. Mango, overripe fruit, stewed cherries. Wine-like. Earthy, woody. Toffee and toasted bread, somewhat English like, perhaps a funky old ale. Overripe bananas, burnt sugar.

Pours deep amber almost brown. Lots of bubbles, great retention, some lacing.

The palate is much less fruit forward than the nose let on. Toasted bread, burnt sugar, lots of oak. Just lightly tart. Banana and spices are notable. The malt character is surprisingly the focus. Rich and caramelly. Stewed cherries, and apple skins come forward eventually.

Medium light body with very high carbonation. Somewhat silky and slick. Loads of bubbles.

Unique beer for sure. It really does remind me of some of the funkier traditional English Old Ales.
