a beer i feel like i have been waiting for these guys to make. they have such a penchant for the belgian stuff, but there has never been a really drinkable simple belgian like this in my experience there, so i was excited to find this one. its as advertised, a rich and frothy headed flavorful brew with a nice fruity belgian yeast complexion, a little bit of dry earthy spice and honey type sweetness to it, and a good amount of body and carbonation, all the things i want in the style, and while its decidedly less refined and predictable and even delicate as something like a duvel, it offers fans of the style something a little more hearty and complex i think, even without much of a hop profile on it. the yeast is allowed to be itself here, fermented pretty warm i would imagine, and exhibiting notes of green pear, papaya, and candied orange peel, along with just the slightest white wine thing going on. white pepper, coriander, even anise in here too, a cool mix of fruit and spice, and all on top of a biscuity richer feeling malt body, maybe a little candy sugar spike as well. smart beer and well executed. this is what these guys do best, i hope it sticks around, a great addition to their lineup!
