Farmhouse Noir is our version of the darker side of the Saison style. Fermented entirely in oak, Farmhouse Noir balances light, chocolate notes and barnyard funk with a tight, vinous acidity. The use of flaked oats lends a silky mouthfeel, just as it's deep chestnut hue belies a dry and refreshing finish.

750ml bottle into tulip. 2015 bottle date; label says fermented entirely in oak.
A: Pours a deep cola or coffee brown with a finger of soft looking dark tan head that faded into a fuzzy collar and wispy film. Soapy spots of lace were left down the glass.
S: Smells of yeasty esters of banana and bubble gum right after the pour, followed by earthy hints of bretty, a kiss of brighter smelling acidity, brine, caramel, and just a hint of chocolate. I get subtle hints of both sweet fruit nectars and dark candied or dried fruit. I also get notes of tart dark cherry skins coming through, although there is none in this beer.
T: Dark fruits mixed with tart lactic acid hit first but meld quickly into buttery and smooth flavors of wood and cocoa. This beer’s flavors to me are that of a much lighter colored beer, although I still get hints of chocolate and caramel. No one flavor really stands out, but I get notes of cherry skins, salt, faint chocolate, buttery oak, and hints of drink fruits. The tart cherry skins is hard to get out of my head. The aftertaste is smooth and buttery with a lingering hint of yeasty, peppery spice, and earthy brett.
M: Body is on the fuller side but it’s not thick. I think the very dense, rich, and fluffy carbonation mixed with the creamy and smooth mouthfeel create the sensation of a full body, when in reality this isn’t as thick or heavy as say an imperial stout. Acidic adds a nice complexity but this isn’t overly puckering. The finish is rather dry and some gritty tannins are left on my palate after I swallow.
O: A very smooth and rich tart, dark, saison. The light yet complex flavors mixed with the low acidity and super creamy carbonation/mouthfeel make this a very easy to drink and approachable beer.

A - Very dark brown with a thick, creamy toffee colored lacing.
S - Lots of funky tartness.
T - Lots tart funk (just like the nose), oak, sour and dry black cherry.
M - Medium body with light carbonation with nice pricklies, wet to semi-dry finish.
O - Glad to have tried it, wouldn't again.

Rating this here instead of the other listing because the label looks like the one I had. Medicinal and sour. Cherry. Funky. Lacto and pedio. Chocolate and caramel. This is a hot mess and has way too much going on. Not for me. Just gross. #HotMess
