On tap at the Twisted Tasting. With a dry beer, you’d expect any sort of liquor barrel aging to totally dominate, since there’s less body and sweetness to hide the alcohol. But somehow this beer -- a dark saison aged in rum barrels -- avoids that pitfall. The thing that stands out here is the balance: beer and rum are paired gracefully, unlike when you tried to pair them in college. There’s a nice base beer, teetering between bready and roasty, but ultimately just a stage for the spicy sweet rum notes to stand on. The barrel aging thins this out a bit but it has plenty of flavor to make up for it. Definitely one I want to try again. Note: It’s "ron," as in the Spanish word for "rum." Rhymes with "bone."
