Brownish black opaque body, big khaki head. Smells of licorice, malt, and a lot of bourbon booze, too much especially since there isn't much of the whole barrel. Taste is bourbon booze controlled, but the dark malts, licorice, earth and prune do make a fleeting appearance. Feel is hot and thin from the intense booze, also feels more roasted than it tasted or smelled, almost ashy.

From the wax-sealed 650 ml. bottle. Sampled on April 26, 2014.

The pour is attractive with its reddish-brown look that leads up to a modest head that eventually fades away.

The aroma is rather thin but I do pick up some roasted malts, licorice and sweetness but nothing overtakes the other.

The body is about medium.

The taste brings out a kind of malty note but not as forward as Wee Heavies that I have had before. The booze is there but it is muted some. I really wanted malts galore on this but they could not be found. I have been a huge fan of Candia Road brews but this one was a letdown. It just seemed to be missing something.

Bottle from the source.
Pours a slightly hazy dark brown with faint garnet at the edges and a smallish but long lasting creamy tan head. Aromas of dark sugars and a hint of smoke with just a touch of earthy wood and bourbon character. The flavor is mostly dark and burnt sugars with hints of fruit and a mild tannic wood bite and just a faint hint of bourbon. Lingering sweetness mixed with a touch of ethanol in the finish. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a creamy sweet sticky mouthfeel. Decent beer. The barrel treatment is extremely subtle, I really would have liked a bit more character there. 16 bucks a bottle is probably a bit too high of a price point as well.

Small limited bourbon barrel aged ale with a great taste. Taste is light and easy drinking contrary to its dark appearance. Very mellow and smooth bourbon taste. Not the best beer I've had, but a nice unexpected surprise from a small time brewery in town.
