Unsure as to if this sample was from a bottle or draft. Poured a hazy orange color. Aroma was of sharp pine hops along with a fruity hoppiness as well. Lots of citrus. Floral hops as well. Some light, malty sweetness. Flavor is an initially stinging dose of pine and grapefruit. Then I get a little more of the fruitiness. Behind the hops is a candied sweetness. High bitterness. Chewy mouthfeel. Rather intense. Pretty well done.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #79 (Aug 2013):

We can fully appreciate bottle-conditioned brews, but Candia Road really should tighten up production as this character—or to narrow it down, the yeast—takes over a bit too much. Another case of “yeast gone wild,” the potential is there, though falls way short of what we expected.

STYLE: Double IPA
ABV: 8.2%
AVAILABILITY: Year-round

LOOK: Deep amber, hazed, massive head

SMELL: Intensely floral, lots of yeast, toasted grain, faint caramel, exotic fruit, hemp seeds, rose water

TASTE: Juicy hoppiness, faintly dank, slightly biscuity grain, sharp bitterness, chalky yeast, estery, apple skin, astringent; extremely dry, very bitter finish

Poured into a snifter the beer was a hazy dark orange color. There was a fairly small off white head that left a minimal amount of lace.

Mostly a pine aroma, a tiny bit of citrus. Faint sweet malt.

Piney, resiney taste. I thought I could taste some grapefruit. Not sure where the malt went.

A hop-forward beer. I wanted a little more malt presence, and found this to be a difficult DIPA to drink.
