My interruption of my deep delve into CT Valley's Spiked Smoothies CANtinues with CANother CAN of strawberry beer in support of The CANQuest (tm). Tarts & Sours are generally not my thing, what with my adult-onset GIRD, but a) it seems like brewers have lightened up at least a little, making such beers a bit more palatable & b) I CAN CANtrol my heartburn with OTC meds, as long as I take them in adCANce of drinking them.

Also, was there a bumper crop of strawberries recently? It seems like they are finding their way into a LOT of beers currently. Not that I mind, mind you. Strawberries became my favorite fruit at some point in my adulthood, surpassing the blueberries that I cherished as a child. I did not have ocCANsion to do so this year, but I generally make a yellow sheet cake for the 4th of July that I ice with white/vanilla frosting & use strawberries, raspberries & blueberries to fashion an AmeriCAN flag. Yum!

From the CAN: "Sour Ale with Strawberry, Mango, Vanilla, & Milk Sugar".

As usual, I digress & to bring us back, I beCAN with a Crack! of the vent, followed by a hard, aggro C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. I was interested to watch it form two fingers of roiling, rolling, soapy, French Vanilla-colored head with better-than-usual retention, given its style. Color was a cloudy, turbid orangish-Amber (SRM = > 7, < 13), a wider range than usual since it was an unusual shade. Nose was stronger with mango than with strawberry, which led to my scratching my head as to its not getting top billing. Hmm. Both were discernible, though, so kudos for that! Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but not terribly removed from it, either. The taste was not really sour, but it was definitely puckeringly tart. The vanilla gave it a real smoothie-like flavor with both the mango & strawberry coming forth throughout. I liked that it was not sour & that its tartness was CANparatively mild. Finish was semi-dry, not really at all sweet at any point, despite the addition of vanilla & milk sugar. I see that Free Will does a whole series of these fruited Mashes so it may be something for which to keep an eye open. Pretty good, but one was enough for me. YMMV.
