Style: Witbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our traditionally-styled Belgian White Ale is crafted using a variety of malts and spices. Rather than competing for individual attention these ingredients harmonize for a complex, well-rounded, drinking experience. A silky feeling envelops the palate; subtle sweetness balances the spice before yielding to a delicate, tart, finish that is highlighted with a touch of white pepper.

Hazy orange tone to this beer with a quickly thinning white head from tap. Belgian yeast notes highlight the scent, pretty normal Belgian nose to this beer. Flavor is a bit different with some type of lemon or sourness coming through on the finish. Thinner feel with ample carbonation. Ok brew I guess.

a pretty average to slightly better than average take on a wit, its yeast driven, very pale and light in terms of the wheat in it, and citrusy and drinkable, tasty and fairly refreshing, less cloying than their mango wheat, but still with some sweetness. banana and coriander notes dominate the nose and taste, with a lemon and orange citrus flavor towards the finish. the yeast is familiar to me, nothing special, but flavors this beer nicely. more mild in taste than smell, super light on the palate, and could really stand some ramped up carbonation to make it more of a quencher. if you like these bold american takes on wit, you will dig this, but i found it to be a little off from what i like in the style. i also had it at a bar where most of the draft beers i had were less than fully carbonated, so maybe the mouthfeel is more an issue with the establishment than the beer itself. i will have to try it in the bottle next time. free will does some cool stuff, but this wit, flavorful as it is, could have been made by any number of upstart american craft operations, and lacks the nuance and subtlety i look for in better examples of the style...

My only problem with this beer is that it is super carbonated; almost like drinking soda. Beautiful aroma and taste is above average.

(on tap at Irish Mile - served in a shaker pint)

Bold nose - lots of coriander, citrus... liquid is a little too clear, little to no head.

Taste is dry with the aromatics lingering long on the palate. Mouthfeel is a bit dull - little carbonation and thinnish body.

The smell is nice enough for an American example, but the whole thing reeks of hokey homebrew recipe.

Poured 12oz bottle into glass. 5.7% abv

Appearance- Pours an extremely cloudy/hazy lemon yellow with a two finger head that dissipates semi fast.

Smell- Sweet bready malt, lemon, grass, and sugar.

Taste- Sugary yeast of that of the Belgian variety comes into play first. A crackery malt comes next with a touch of clove and ginger. Lemon citrus as well. The finish is quite herbal and ends with a touch of pepper.

Mouthfeel- Medium in body with fresh carbonation. Spot on.

Overall- An excellent Wit to be had here. Complex and just how the style should be. No surprise this is one of the top Free Will brews. If youre a wit fan you'll love this one.
