Notes / Commercial Description:
Derketo is a mer-goddess of ancient lore and we thought she would be the perfect representative for our imperialized and hopped up Belgian Style Double IPA. We brewed this light colored ale with boatloads of Amarillo and Galaxy hops and Belgian yeast. The result is perhaps one of the most pleasingly aromatic beer we have ever created. Juicy passion fruit, tangerine and a world of other citrus and tropical entwine themselves beautifully with Belgian yeast notes. Drink as fresh as you can.

a well made beer no doubt, but frankly too big for my tastes, and i rarely say that. its one of those belgian ipas that is both extremely belgian, with a ton of fruity intense winey yeast, and an overabundance of hops, bitter to a fault, and piney as they come. i like the combination at times, but in this brew, as well crafted as it is, its all a bit too much. the yeast is in your face, and the hops are right there with it, overwhelming the palate after a few sips. the booze is also a little exposed here, especially at temperature, but i see it in this context as an accent not a flaw. pale in color, enormous is stature, one of those beers i can appreciate without really liking. my first (that i can remember) from pipeworks and it has me thirsty for more, just not more of this one, its a sensory overload, but my mainframe is fried, i see the appeal to others for sure.

Pours a slightly hazy golden orange/yellow with a light and fluffy single finger head. Gentle lacing that sticks around for a while.

Grapefruit, melon, tangerine, and definitely get the passion fruit in the nose as well.

The galaxy hops explode in your mouth with tangerine citrus tang and sweet passionfruit. Balanced superbly by the softness and freshly baked bread toasted maltiness the Belgian yeast brings to the table.

Mouthfeel has some definite bitter bite to it, as a lover of IPAs, it's pretty darn good, but the Belgian yeast adds a smoothness to it.

Overall, a damn good example of the Belgian IPA, glad to try again and again.
