22 ounce bottle into a tulip glass. Bottled 12/9/2015.

Pours. a dark brown, opaque, with a one finger head and some foamy lacing. Lots of agitation in the glass well after the pour. Smell brings rye, herbal hops, malt, some lemon, a generally spicy aroma. Taste leads with the rye and malt, then some lemon, some caramel, little bit of the cacao underneath. Again, a general subtle spiciness. It's not sweet, and I don't really pick up the honey. Smooth, well carbonated, solid body, taste lingers.

Thought this was another big effort from PW- lots of interesting flavors, well blended, easy to drink. Me, I miss those days when they were doing three new beers a weeks. Well worth a purchase, and you can probably still find it.

Appearance: pours a deep amber color and has strong garnet hues. a small tannish head forms and has weak retention. leaves a small lacing behind. strong clarity and really nice brightness when held to the light.

Smell: spicy rye and dark fruits, slight lemon peel, chocolate and licorice.

Taste: opens with notes of dark fruits, with notes of lemon and lemon peel coming through with a touch of acidity. some floral notes along with lots of spicy rye. backend is taken over by huge amounts of licorice and some chocolate. additional undetermined spices as well.

Mouthfeel: heavy and chewy. lingering licorice and spice. sticky.

Overall: I used to get more excited about Pipeworks spiced up beers but now I tend to want to stay away from them. this was one of the worse ones. I think I'll stick more towards their barleywines when I can.

22 oz. bottle, no more Batch #'s, but this was just released today, and I just added it to the database. Brewed in collaboration with Owen & Engine - "Rye ale brewed with honey, spices, & lemon peel".

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - It pours a dark garnet brown - maroon / wine colored hues, with two fingers of frothy khaki head that leaves excellent spotty lacing.

S - Very different than the other botanical / cocktail inspired beers they've done. The rye is noticeable offhand. Moderate alcohol fumes, zesty citrus (lemon) & fresh juicy piney hops all play their part. "Spices" are present, but indistinct. No presence of cacao nibs on the nose.

T - Flavor profile is the same, a strange yet interesting concoction. Grainy rye, alcohol fumes, citrus. Again, the spicing is present, but indistinct. Bit of a dark grainy / alcohol presence steals the show mostly.

M - Medium-bodied, semi-thick, with good crisp carb. Drinkable, especially considering the moderately high 10.00% abv.

Overall, another interesting spiced concoction from Pipeworks, though not something I'd be too eager to try again. I look forward to what comes next.
