Tasted in a pint glass from draught at Firkin on September 1, 2017. A smooth drinking hoppy lager.

this drinks like a west coast ipa, another hoppy gem from pipeworks, and one of the first lagers i have had from them, but that aspect of it is entirely secondary to the hops, which are beyond substantial in this. honey colored brew, nice and clear and foamy from the tap, aromas of fresh pineapple and papaya, and a bit of bitter citrus, clean and bright and not overly fruity but quite distinct, i am immediately curious about the varietals they used for this, the aroma is super pungent and fresh. no trace of the lager yeast yet. there does have to be some lactose in here right? its got the powdered sugar creaminess and light sweetness and froth to the finish, its great with the hops, thats an ingredient here right? the flavor bursts with hops as well, almost has that hop dust or shatter sort of freshness and intensity about it, subtle peach and more citrus to it, wickedly bitter to finish compared to the trajectory until that point. a nice punctuation at the end of this beer. the lager yeast does crisp it up a bit, but there is still a lot of oily texture here, and there is just the slightest hint of its flavor, but its hard to appreciate this one as a lager for the most part, being so hop driven and all. nice carbonation, fairly dry even with what i perceive to be milk sugar, and very pleasantly tropical all the way through, tastes stronger than its listed abv here too for some reason. pipeworks kills it on the hoppy stuff! wonder which varietals are to thank for this beauty?
