Tasted in a Spiegelau lager glass from a 1 pint 6 fl oz bottle on December 29, 2017. Look is bright gold with lingering lacing. Nice interpretation of the style.

Made in Chicago but its heart is in Germany, a rare glimpse of a fresh Coln German hybrid beer graces the lips of lucky imbibers, but does so with a few special Pipeworks twists.
Pale straw and streaming with effervescence, the frothy and lightly hazed ale comes with the scent of sweet grains, light cereal and with hints of fruit, grass, citrus and spice. Its subtle scent splashes the tongue with the delicate sweetness of honeysuckle, fresh baked bread and a creamy elegance.
As the flavors unfold on the middle palate, its sweetness lifts slightly to allow the balance from hops to bring its own taste of lemongrass, herbal whimsy, light orange and eventually a spicy bitterness with a pep of pine needles. Fruity throughout, an undertow of apple, honeydew and papaya reinforce the fruity hop impressions and softening its bitter balance in closing.
Medium bodied but trending fuller compared to lager of the region, the creaminess of the kolsch adds to the beer's lushness even while the session concludes with a crisp, clean and refreshing impression overall. A minty hop flavor resonates in aftertaste for a brief moment.

Pours a light matte golden color. Somewhat cloudy and a bit effervescent. Initially there is a thick large white pillowy head that dissipates slowly but steadily leaving rings of white lacing on the glass and some spotty foam on top of the beer.
Aroma is grainy with some sweet melon notes.
Taste follows the nose with some grains, melon, and vegetal hops on the back end. A tad sweet, but not overly so. Not really the flavor profile I'd expect from a kolsch. The vegetal hop flavor is off-putting as well.
Feel is light and pretty crisp. Mild carbonation. Pretty smooth finish.
Overall if it weren't for that weird hop flavor this would be a solid American kolsch. This is not Pipeworks best German offering.
