This quirky sour ale features real celery and celery seed for a briny, herbal twist that’s refreshingly crisp. A true cult favorite with a sharp personality.

I was expecting something slightly bitter... I was actually afraid to drink this... but it just tastes like a pretty good, not too sour Berliner Weiss... you can kind taste the celery if you really try. I dunno. I thought they were very good, very refreshing... I just was hoping for some distinct “Hey, that’s celery I’m drinking!”.

Packaged 5/22/22, just 5 weeks old.
Pale gold, billowing head, spotty lace, slow rising carb trails. Bright clarity, very pale tone.
Minerally aroma, light sulfur, more dishrag smell than anything. Pretty basic, no celery.
Tart and supple, light feel, tangy aftertaste. Light salinity, lightly wheaty. Nothing identifiable as celery, kind of disappointing. Actual celery juice is pretty green and intense, this is basically the opposite. I love celery juice in gin cocktails, and it really works in that context.
$ellray $our is a standard gose, nothing more or less.

A- 16oz tallboy pours a very pale yellow, slightly greenish beer into a tall chalice. A head forms for a decent amount of time rising to a finger high before dying to a medium ring and some islands floating atop the beer.
S- Mostly getting that signature Gose sourness which is basically all lactic acidity. Lemon comes to mind and the in the backdrop of the sour stuff is a hint of fresh celery stalks.
T- The flavor gets a bit more interesting.... well, more celery-y. You really get a strong note of biting into a fresh stalk and it is joined by lactic acid, pale grain and lemon notes. Definitely a bit strange.
MF- Light-medium bodied for a Gose with a moderate level of carbonation. The texture is a bit puffy but lacks some oomph. Ends with a light sourness.
I love me an experiment but yea, celery alone is kind of weird in beer format. Not sure exactly what you could do to provide some balance or harmony but glad I tried it once.

Canned 5/4/18; drank 5/31/18 @ the Yarchives.
Cloudy dull dandelion appearance; champagne bubbles throughout.
A rough pour yielded a big, noisy white head; minimal lace.
Celery, mild black pepper & faint cucumber notes in the nose.
Medium thin mouthfeel.
Celery & faint tart lemon flavors up front; mild sea salt & faint black pepper notes on the finish.
Refreshing & balanced; a killer hot summer beer. I was apprehensive...buy with confidence.

Appearance - The beer was golden in color with a clean white head.
Smell - The nose bring to mind celery salt without the Chicago style hot dogs.
Taste - Celery salt is the initial taste, followed by sour lemon. As the lemon becomes more sour like lemon rind, there developed a leafy quality. I was made to think of celery leaves. The lemon essence continues in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Carbonation is appropriate to the style, with the body having some viscosity.
Overall - This is not one of Pipeworks better beers, but it is unique.

Who would bother making a beer with celery? Who wants a celery beer? I am simultaneously shocked by this concept and appreciative of Pipeworks for daring to try it. It's not for me, but I have a tough time finding fault with it that isn't related to my own tastes. It's a celery gose, alright.

Tasted in a Rastal Teku from a one pint can on May 18, 2018. Gose brewed with celery and celery seed. Smell and taste is tart celery. Not bad, I'm just not a big fan of vegetable beers.
