22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Had 10/6/18, right about the time people reported it going bad. Very minimal effect on this bottle.

Pours a dark amber, somewhat opaque, with a short, quickly dissipating head and some soapy lacing. Aromas of port, bourbon, dates, plums, fig, light molasses, caramel, malt, light oak. The flavor is similar- port, bourbon, malt, plums, grapes, figs, caramel and a light tangy flavor that maybe didn’t belong there. Mostly smooth, a good full body, well carbonated.

The port and bourbon barrels team up well, great flavor and aroma. Might be starting to turn, but effects seem mostly limited to the mouthfeel. Pipeworks did pull the remainder of the bottles from sale, but this bottle was still in pretty good shape.

Released 8/17/18; drank 8/23/18 @ the Yarchives. (Found out later the batch was "turning, but this was drank super fresh, so I'm still posting this)

Opaque brown/orange appearance.

A rough pour yielded a small, noisy tan head which quickly dissipated; no lace.

Brandy, caramel & oak notes in the nose.

Flat, thick, sticky mouthfeel.

Brandy & oak flavors up front; caramel & bourbon notes on the finish. As this warmed, oak & booze emerged as the dominant notes.

This needs about a year maybe? Too hot right now.

Bottle opened on 09/24/2018. This is a bottle with a known recall by Pipeworks. It did not taste terrible but it was definitely not the same beer when I tried it upon release. This had a cherry tartness which is not supposed to be present. The beer will be rated with off flavors taken into account because the undesirable flavors are part of this beer (unfortunately) and the low score should serve as a flag for others looking at rating and potentially looking to acquire this beer via trade or otherwise.

If you are holding a bottle of this, I would open it VERY soon. If the off flavors are present, return to Pipeworks for refund.
