Mosaic and Huell Melon hopped Oat IPA with Strawberries. This beer is plush and lush, and blooming with tart, ripe strawberry flavor. The hops bring their own berry and melon notes to the beer.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a one pint can on June 21, 2019. Look is hazy. Smell and taste is tart strawberry with hints of melon. Feel is medium in body.

Looks like muddy brown pond water, and that’s being generous.
Faint fruity strawberry and yeast aromas.
Tastes pretty good, though a bit astringent. Fruity, though the strawberry is not distinctive. Resiny hop bitterness lingers in the aftertaste. Medium bodied, fairly creamy, though the astringency is a little weird. Overall I can’t really appreciate this, it’s not very unified and the strawberry isn’t very distinctive.

A Mosaic-hopped strawberry IPA is already a pretty great idea, but the addition of Huell Melon hops has the potential to propel this into the realm of juicy perfection... I'm really excited to get into this one, so let's get right into it!

The pour is kind of ugly and dingy, honestly... if I didn't know this had strawberries in it, I'd probably have been turned off right away. That being said, it's likely the strawberry addition is what's making this kind of a ruddy, hazy copper color with some intense chunks floating throughout. Not very attractive. The head is gorgeous, however, and lasts long after the initial pour, almost pink-tinged and humongous... pillowy white foam for days. Pretty good legs here, as well. I guess I'm torn on how to score this, but I think the head is enough to give it full credit, as I can tell this is a well-made recipe immediately, despite my initial misgivings with the color and haze.

The nose pops big time with this one! Massive strawberry, raspberry, grassy, and pine-y, nearly-resinous elements really make themselves known immediately. I almost get a "strawberry smoothie" note but it stops just short of replicating the lactose-driven character of a lot of those new styled beers. Good thing, because I really can't get into the milkshake stuff these days. Papaya, honeydew melon, stemmy/grassy blueberry and some light grapefruit rind in here as well. Mosaic is being leaned into big time, I feel, but the Huell Melon does some good work taming the beastliness of that hop, as it were.

On the tongue, this is similarly excellent. Lush and detailed with superb balance between hoppiness and fruitiness (though I'd say it honestly is almost a "fruit beer" at times on the palate!), the tart and jammy berries combine with the rind-like citrus, tropical thirst-quenching fruit, and the more delicate melon and raspberry stuff going on. A really crazy drink, for sure. Super bitter and almost-acidic toward the finish... it almost makes my mouth pucker, somehow. My palate feels a bit confused, but it's very satisfied when all's said and done! Super juicy feel with good density and low-medium carbonation, allowing the adjunct flavors to shine through even among the hoppiness. This is a win for Pipeworks, who generally do great work. Pick it up if you see it and are interested in the idea... it works a bit better than I figured it would.

Appearance: Pours a weird murky brown color with a red/orange hue. Like red sand in water. A moderate head for the style.
Aroma: It has the typical strong, airy citrus and pineapple profile but more complex. Upfront very strong aroma of honeydew and flowers. Some slight strawberry.
Taste: Tons of lemon, lime, and honeydew upfront. Somewhat turns into that tropical/tea-like mosaic quality. Finishes with a tartness and pleasant strawberry sweetness
Feel: Medium bodied. Finishes tart rather than bitter. A somewhat lingering astringency. Body is the opposite of creamy. The tartness gives it a bite at the end.

Overall: Definitely a unique and complex beer. The Huell Melon hops provide a nice honeydew flavor. The sweet and tart strawberry at the end is a nice complement rather than bitterness. It's like a tart and floral version of a NEIPA. Mosaic brings it back little bit to the IPA flavor we all know. The appearance suffers somewhat, but overall high points for the unique and creativity of this beer. I would describe it as a woman's beer. This one is better than I expected and people should try it.

Canned 5/21/19; drank 6/5/19 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque pink appearance.

A violent pour yielded a huge off-white head; frothy lace.

Mildly tart strawberry, oats & mild orange citrus notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Mild strawberry & faint oat notes up front; mild orange citrus flavors.

In case you haven't noticed, "mild" is the major theme here...it's nice enough, but not one to chase down.
