The move is called "Power Casual". Why dress up when you can dress casual... powerfully casual. So casual that it must have been a decision and not a default.
Power Casual brown ale is so normcore (in fact it was formerly named "Normcore") that in a world of hazy IPAs, fruited beers, and big stouts, it's a power move. We'd say it's "not your Dad's brown ale" ...but it kinda is. And that's what's great about it.
We brewed this very delicious brown ale with a decisive selection of toasted malts that bring notes of toasted walnuts, chestnuts, and fresh baguette to this very easy going beer.

Canned 12/30/21; drank 1/10/22 @ the Yarchives.
Opaque brown/orange appearance.
A violent pour yielded a big tan head; frothy, tree-rung lace.
Brown sugar, caramel & faint vanilla notes in the nose.
Creamy, medium thick mouthfeel.
Brown sugar & caramel flavors; watery citrus notes on the finish.
I like the nose and the mouthfeel, but the flavor was a bit more bland than expected. Drinkable, but not great.

Malty, rich, strong flavor in first few sips softens into a lush, crisp, brown. I could drink this easy in cold weather. Snuggle up with my white new balances next to the fireplace.

Tasted in a Rastal Craft Master glass from a one pint can on November 26, 2019. Traditional brown ale brewed with British ale yeast, roasted malts and Brambling Cross hops. Nice interpretation of the style.

Pours a really light weak auburn color. Thin one finger tan head dissipates pretty fast leaving no residual head on the beer. The beer appears really light - its an auburn brown, but hold it up to the light completely see through and remarkably light. Similar to a dark euro lager or modelo negra. Overall the appearance was nothing remarkable.
Aroma has some nice nutty notes with a hint of roast malts. Earthy, almost musty, with some light toffee and caramel notes. Really nicely done.
Taste follows the nose with some nice nutty notes up front with an earthy roasted malt backbone. The finish is almost slightly spicy with hints of pepper and clove. Hops are noticeable on the back end providing some bitterness, but maintaining an earthy profile. As the beer is consumed, I cannot help but notice a tobacco like note to the beer in the flavor profile. Really complimentary.
Feel is light to medium bodied, prickly with a semi-dry finish. Easy drinking as brown ales go.
Overall this is more in the vein of a English rather than an American brown ale, but either way its a lovely example of the style and one that I hope turns up regularly in the lineup for Pipeworks.
