It was a dark dream come true to brew this toasty, balanced, and long-lagered porter. This beer is a clean 10% ABV break from the "pastry" stout scene. It's a perfect wintery beer in our humble opinion.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a short light beige head that quickly died down, leaving some specks of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of licorice are present in the nose.
T: The taste also has flavors of licorice, but these are a little subdued compared to the taste acand there are underlying notes of dark malts and coffee along with a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels a slight bit more than medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This porter drinks rather easily for a beer that is nearly 10% abv.

16 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 12/3/19, had 6/7/20.
Pours a dark brown, somewhat opaque, with a half inch foamy head and sparse foamy lacing. Aromas of malt, chocolate, prunes, some molasses, some smoke, light licorice and coffee. Similar flavors- malt, chocolate, some licorice, light coffee, molasses and prunes. Has a light bitterness throughout. Smooth, a solid medium to full body, well carbonated.
Excellent example of the style. The malts are terrific, lots of chocolate. Very enjoyable and well worth a purchase.

Pours a cola brown with a very small head in center of glass.
Smell of chocolate malt and slight coffee.
Taste of milk chocolate that dries as a bakers chocolate. Plenty of malt with slight black licorice and molasses. Just a bit of coffee and vanilla.
Medium mouthfeel thaT goes down smooth.
A very nice porter!

I love this underrated style of beer and Pipeworks does it very well. It’s bitter and dry and the perfect anti pastry stout as they mention on the can. Even at 9.5% abv, I could drink this for a long time given the lack of cloying sweetness. Don’t miss this if you can still find it!

an impulse buy for no reason other than i haven't had a porter in a while. month old can revealed a dark, dark brown brew, bits of light poking around the edge of the glass. a tiny little tan head came and went, nothing left to show it was ever there. nose is a blend of chocolates, both sweeter milk chocolate and bitter, darker notes. toasty malts, some vague smoke, and a pinch of almost vanilla join in. each sip has felt a bit different, initially it was a pretty one note chocolate and malt mixture, but has evolved into a slew of dark and milk chocolate, burnt toast and something like dark fruit. there's a lingering earthiness and bitterness that seems to grow within the aftertaste. very much a mouth coating and creamy beer, but not quite full bodied in a good way. super smooth and warming. my "what the hell" buys usually disappoint me but this is hitting several spots.

16oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It smelled of roasted malt, dark chocolate, some smokiness and toffee. Rich, roasty taste with chocolate, toffee and hints of vanilla.

16oz can, date stamped 10/??/19. Near black body with a foamy brown head that holds good retention. Malty aroma with raisin, prune, and earthy hops. Full flavored and on point for the style: dark malts, dark fruit (raisin, fig, prune), chocolate, faint roast and anise; earthy & spicy hop bitterness. Full, creamy body, velvety smooth, ample carbonation, alcohol is warming, balanced finish. One of my favorite styles, and this was delicious!

Pitch black with a momentary layer of foam, minimal spotty lace.
Rich chocolatey aroma, ample roast, chocolate milk.
Very mild bitterness, round and roasty with a hulking dark chocolate presence building and slowly fading into the honeyed aftertaste. Medium bodied and impossibly smooth. A real midwinter banger from Pipeworks.

The pour is lovely, light and fluffy head over a modestly thick, dark brown porter that still admits some light. This one is specifically noted as being a lager. Rich, roasted malts, a touch of banana, subtle iodine that I associate with Baltic porters in particular. Really full of flavor, especially as it warms.
