A good idea for a big, sticky DIPA for sure here... Bottle Logic and Pipeworks join forces to deliver a Mosaic/Amarillo hopped beer with both the regular and "Cryo" versions of these two well-loved hops. I'm into it... as the breweries involved say: the theory is sound!
The pour here is much less NEIPA-like than I figured it would be, and I'm not sure why I figured that because it says nothing about the beer being hazy on the can label whatsoever. Maybe I'm just conditioned to expect that at this point? Anyway, it's like a moderately-golden-colored, fairly-clear/translucent looking brew with a generous dollop of whipped cream-looking, eggshell-white head on top of the proceedings. Not too shabby at all! Decent legs and lace show here, kind of nondescript I suppose, but I enjoy the approach overall.
The nose is all kinds of dank with a helping of grassiness and light citrus fruit backing notes. Some musky, underripe mango and a touch of funky earthiness that Mosaic is known for. Maybe a little bit of green onion/chive as well? Well, what do you know? It's a somewhat "old school" DIPA from these boys! Slight black tea/tannic notes with melon, light raspberry, and an almost red grape-like hit hanging around. Oh you know I'm intrigued by this one.
On the tongue, this is definitely a bigger IPA with a rather hefty malt element to it... well-built with a touch of caramel malt or perhaps even some Vienna to bring out breadiness. I almost get a rye-like spice, too, but could just be the way the Cryo Mosaic performs... don't think I've had any other beers with Cryo Amarillo, but I guess they can bring out some orchard fruit and melon aspects. I don't really get much of that here, but there is a definite mango, raspberry, and earthy onion element that I quite enjoy. This is almost refreshing for an 8.5%er, somehow. Pine resin, some toffee, and grassy florals toward the finish.
Feel is full-bodied and somewhat sticky with moderated carbonation; quite hop saturated but not overly-so, and it doesn't taste like a complete Mosaic bomb by any means... which is appreciable because I have mixed feelings about Mosaic-heavy DIPAs. The earthy chive, light spice, orchard fruit, and melange of citrusy fruit notes give this a pretty good flavor profile, but it's also probably not something I would come back to if I'm being honest. Another good one-and-done.

Canned 12/3/19; drank 12/15/19 @ the Yarchives.
See-through dark orange appearance.
A violent pour yielded a huge eggshell head; a thick curtain of lace.
Caramel, pine, mild fruit punch & faint table sugar notes in the nose.
Medium thick, sticky mouthfeel.
Caramel, dry pine & faint fruit punch flavors up front; mild table sugar notes on the finish.
Too sweet, too sticky, too dry...it's drinkable but not that enjoyable.
