Double IPA with Centennial, Chinook, Cascade, Citra, and Cryo Citra Hops.
Double IPA with Centennial, Chinook, Cascade, Citra, and Cryo Citra Hops
Retrace is a super aromatic DIPA packed with some of all time favorite hops. In combination, these hops burst forth with notes of mandarine oranges, apricots, spruce tips, and fresh squeezed OJ. We also used a different hopping schedule on this beer than usual. This beer is unexpectedly big on flavor while still refreshing. Kinda everything we hope for in a DIPA.

16oz can. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, off-white head of bubbly foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of orange, tangerine, grapefruit, caramel and resin. Sweet tropical fruit taste with toasted caramel and a piney bitterness.

16oz can, date stamped 01/30/20. Hazy and nearly opaque yellow-orange ale with a frothy ivory head. Aroma is herbal, citric, spicy, and piney hops - love the Centennial in there! Flavors are similar to aroma - more spicy, herbal, and piney Centennial hops, pungent Chinook, grapefruit & Mandarin orange citrus and pine from the Cascade, Citra gets a bit lost but does add more citrus and a faint tropical-ness - it is weird how I can pick apart the hops in this one; light caramel malt and honey notes for malt. Body is fuller; very resinous and drying on the pungently bitter finish with pine resin lingering; alcohol is mildly noticeable and more warming than anything. The name Retrace totally makes sense with this one, as it includes a lot of the classic 'C' hops. A very well constructed beer using some of my favorite, dare I say...old school hops.

16oz can, dated 01.31.2020, poured into an etched Pipeworks snifter glass.
The beer pours a cloudy and turbid orange color, amber hues with a nice fluffy white head, about two fingers with excellent retention and lacing. The aroma is nice, super earthy, lots of raw green and grassy hop leaf, dank and somewhat floral, strong citrus juice, bitter citrus rind with a punch of booze and cereal grains. The flavors are good, strong citrus juice and bitter peel, raw green hop leaf, piney, resinous and lightly floral with cereal grains and light alcohol. The mouthfeel is good, lively and crisp medium body, coats well with a crisp and dry finish.
Verdict: A solid IPA from Pipeworks. A bit boozy and malty, which is not atypical, but there is a nice juicy citrus component to this beer.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a one pint can on February 17, 2020. Double IPA with Centennial, Chinook, Cascade, Citra, and Cryo Citra. So many C hops!
