Italian Style Pilsner. Collaboration with J.P. Graziano Grocery.

Yes, that is correct! We collaborated with the real Chicago legends at J.P. Graziano Grocery to create this crispy, refreshing, spritzy hopped Pilsner. What is an "Italian Style Pilsner" you ask? It's a slightly hoppier dry lager and in this case, it's a lager that pairs excellently with a sando from the one and only J.P. Graz.

If you haven't had a change to support this Chicago institution, we suggest doing yourself a favor and grabbing a collabo beer and scooping a sando from their iconic spot on Randolph St. and don't skip on the cannoli!

Alla Salute - cheers to your health!

16 oz can mfgr 6/26/24 into a pokal.
L: SRM 3 pours light straw light lemon juice yellow with a thin white head that recedes to edge foam, lush steady carbonation, light loose 1/2 side lacing.
S: Lightly grassy, fruity, a lemon note, a very light sensation of honey, distant pear.
T: Lemon, lemon grass, fruity, sweet background malts, yeast, zest throughout, some pastry dough, mildly full flavored. It is gently pale and is very lightly tart.
F: Quite crisp medium-light bodied feel with a medium-length lightly drying finish.
O: Very tasty with a nice feel and luster. Rings all the style bells clearly. Bang on flavor overall. It is excellent in its style.

16oz can, dated 06.29.2023, poured into a 16oz tumbler glass. Enjoyed on 07.28.2023, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a nice straw color, honey hues, slight haze with a fluffy white head that has moderate retention and lacing. The aroma is pleasant, bright floral hops, citrus peel, herbal tea, pine, plenty of pale grain, dry biscuit and mineral water. The flavors are good, fragrant herbal hops, floral, green, light fruit character, pilsner malt, biscuit dough, and mineral water. The mouthfeel is nice, coating, very lively medium body, crisp and dry finish.

Verdict: A nice Italian Style Pilsner. The hops come across nicely, good pale grain backbone, easy to drink, very sessionable.

16 oz can into a pilsner glass. Clear pale light golden color with a small fizzy white head that quickly vanished. Corn, wet hay, faint lemon citrus aroma. Stronger lemon flavor in the taste, along with white bread, and a hint of honey sweetness. Low hop bitterness. Medium-light body. This could use a little more depth of flavor, especially in terms of hop bitterness, and perhaps some more carbonation to round it out.

A very unappealing pale yellow, nice frothy white head and some nice lacing. Some grain, grassy hops a bit of lemon zest. Pilsner were never my favorite, but J.P. Graziano subs, among Chicago's best

Canned 4/11/22; drank 4/28/22 @ the Yarchives.

See through pale yellow appearance.

A rough pour yielded a big white head; strong, frothy lace.

Pine needle, soap & faint corn notes in the nose.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Pine, soap & mild dry corn flavors.

Not real pleasant, in my opinion.

Pours a cloudy bright golden-yellow color. Its cloudy enough that its actually pretty opaque. Thin, two finger, white sudsy head forms on the beer. The head partially dissipates but leaves a thin layer of white foam on top of the beer.

Aroma has notes of white bread, straw, lemon grass, lemon zest, with a spicy dried grass notes. The hops on this are pretty bright, and definitely more prominent on the nose.

Taste follows the nose with notes of white bread, dried straw, dried grass, lemon zest, lemon grass, a mild herbal spicy note with a moderate, but pleasant bitterness on the finish.

Feel is light and crisp. Bright, but moderate carbonation.

They are calling this one an "Italian pilsner" and to the extent that its a unique style or variation of pilsner, this beer captures what I've come to expect from Italian pilsners beautifully. The hops are prominent but well integrated for the style. Its a delicious beer and one I hope Pipeworks decides to brew regularly.
