MOSAIC HOPPED BLACK PALE ALE
Notes of espresso and chocolate work soooo well with the blueberry Mosaic notes. If you think you know what's up with black IPA's, BLIZZARD KING is here to change hearts and minds. We took our Lizard King pale ale, kept the hopping relatively similar and throttled it all up with roasty toasty malts.

Super dark, black with a medium thick tan, frothy head. Nose is toasted grains, almost a charr but not too much. Taste was lighter than expected, took a while to build. What came forth was still weaker that expected or preferred, but some charr came through with a hint of toasted malts and berries. Mild bitterness.

Canned 11/25/25. Can sez 5.3%. Solid, well balanced cascadian with good mouthfeel; medium hoppiness; a nice burnt/charred/roasty/javaish/malty flavor and a lingering, mouthcoating, tarry/tobacco-y aftertaste. Very quaffable.

1/11/26 Home (Chicago, IL) Can Notes: Purchased on 12/10/25 at store temperature at Beer on the Wall for $3.98 with tax, before refrigerating until opening this morning. 16 oz canned 11/25/25 @ 10:44 AM. 5.3% ABV Mosaic Dry Hopped Black Pale Ale. Label Art by Beejay Olson. 2025 Pipeworks Brewing Company, Brewed and Canned in Chicago, Illinois.
Appearance: Poured about 3/4 of the can into a large tulip glass, yielding a creamy root beer like creamy bubbly head and near black dark brown base. Prevalent razor thin lazing and a sustained creamy cover over the base remain after several minutes. Looks delicious. 4.5
Aroma: Dark roast malt front and center, backed by a wonderful pine and citrus aroma. Dark roast coffee notes. Very strong overall and enjoyable. 4.5
Taste: Citrus leads, with a lighter roast malt placing second. Consistent lead/secondary flavors fresh and when warming. 4.0
Mouthfeel: Dry, somewhat bitter. Light drinking in terms of ABV, perhaps even lower. Persistent faintly gentle carbonation, medium creamy body with characteristics of a dry stout. Citrus hops and roast malt the entire journey. 4.25
Overall: This beer had a Twilight Zone like twist between the aroma and taste. Fully expected a malty experience, but this is Pipeworks and Hops Reign Supreme here. That said, a very interesting and enjoyable selection, and one I recommend and will seek in the future. 4.5

Black in color with absolutely minimal light penetration. There’s a fingernail to a quarter inch of brown on top. Moderate, soapy lacing is present. There’s aroma is of pine and dark malt. I’m tasting pine and lightly smoked dark malt. The mouth is lightly sticky and dry.

Pours black with a few fingers of tan khaki foam. Aroma is slightly sticky, hitting notes of resin and pine, before smoothingly transitioning to roasty, toasty, and mild earthy malts. Slight sweetness blended and balanced by some bitter malts. Flavor profile is a little more back and forth, hitting notes of pine, resin, and grass before the pendulum swings to roasty, toasty, bready, and earthy malts. That pendulum continues to swing back and forth for awhile. Mouth feel is medium in thickness. Texture is soft with a crisp fuzziness. Overall, sticky, dark, and refreshing - a little more hop pop than most Black IPAs, making this a very interesting beer.
Served in a 15.5oz Spiegelau tulip from a 16oz can.

16oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left sticky streaks of lace. It smelled of roasted malt, dark chocolate and pine. Great roasted malt taste with chocolate, toffee and strong piney notes.
