7/13/24 - (Can - Home) (Chicago, IL) - Can Notes: Four pack purchased on sale refrigerated from Pipeworks Dojo on 6/14/24 for $5.51. 16 oz canned 2/21/24 @ 1:09:47 PM. 5.2% ABV. Pipeworks Night Sun Stout. Label art by Beejay Olson. 2024 Pipeworks Brewing Company, Brewed and Canned in Chicago, Illinois.
Appearance: A little more than half the can poured into a shaker pint glass. Dark brown to black impenetrable base, generous dark tan head recedes with soapy lacing throughout, and a cream cover above consisting of fine thin plus bubbles. Looks very good. 4.25
Aroma: Nice robust dark roast malt, bakers chocolate, roast malt. Hops seem to contain excess sweet aromas, which I'll appreciate. 4.25
Taste: Delivers consistent with the aroma, taste also held well over the past near five months. Nice dark roasted malt, mirrors dark roast coffee in some aspects (none included), chocolate more milk dark blend. Really solid. 4.5
Mouthfeel: Enjoying the balance between the sweet flavors and roast malt / hops which contain excess. Drinks light and easy, a bit under the ABV. Carbonation scarce and gentle, body medium, feels fuller / creamy, enjoying the bitterness here. Slightly dry, nice dark roast and milk chocolate finish. 4.0
Overall: This is a solid beer, an Old School balanced American Stout held up really well over the past five months, will definitely seek out next Winter / release. Well done Pipeworks!

Released February 2024; drank 5/2/24 @ the Yarchives.
Black appearance.
A rough pour yielded a big, noisy dark tan head; strong, frothy lacing.
Fresh earth, mild brownie batter & faint black licorice notes in the nose.
Medium thick mouthfeel.
Fresh earth & mild cream flavors up front; faint blackberry & black licorice notes on the finish.
Almost a lil' Russian Imperial Stout; robust & a hint harsh, but ultimately drinkable.

Roasty toasty. Looks and smells like an Irish Dry Stout and the first sip continues to deceive. But after a few more sips the hops make their presence known. At the end this feels almost like a Black IPA / Stout hybrid. But nonetheless still very drinkable, enjoyable and well crafted hoppy roasty toasty stout if labels aren't your thing.
