Pipeworks Barrel Aged Smoked Porter unites wood and smoke in a natural harmony. This first barrel aged offering finds our smoked porter aged in millet, spelt, and rye whiskey barrels from our friends at Koval Distillery. Like smoking a pipe by the fireplace, the resulting blend reeks of sophistication. We hope you'll enjoy this taste of liquid refinement.

Batch 1, 22oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours nearly opaque black in color with a small creamy khaki colored head that retains long after the pour

S- heavy smoke aroma up front gives notes of smoked peat moss, charred wood, dried pork, chocolate malt & band aides.

T- taste follows the aroma with lots of smoke up front with flavors of charred smoky cherrywood, smoked peat and a hint of sweet chocolate malt on the finish

M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a foamy and spritzy mouthfeel and a foamy sudsy finish

O- couldn't really get much of the barrel character but there was definitely tons of smoke, that held up even after over two years of age

Good camping beer. Dark brown beer, beige head. Wood, whiskey and women. Oh that's just smoke.

Taste was really easy drinking. Wasn't overpowering even though I have a low smoke palate threshold. Mild chocolate and sweetness give it the balance smoke beers have been so desperately asking for all these years.

Batch 1

Appearance: Pours all foam, and it takes quite a while for the espresso colored liquid to appear

Smell: Campfire smoke, chocolate and Bourbon barrel tones

Taste: Chocolate, black bread and campfire smoke, with vanilla, Bourbon and cane syrup tones building in the mid-palate; somewhat phenolic in the finish, with a Band-Aid character

Mouthfeel: A spritzy mess with a medium body

Overall: Though the beer had promise the few years it spent in the cellar did not favors for this beer as the carbonation became a mess and the phenols attacked the flavor profile

Thanks to rudzud for sharing.

Pours a light creamy head, thick pitch black beer.

Nose loaded with smoked malt, campfire char, light burnt roast acrid, a bit of barrel char and light whisky that is hardly detectable.

Taste stats with acrid char, smoked everything but not overpowering, little campfire and peat, slight burnt acrid char, then barrel rounding with very very light whisky and vanilla, back into tobacco, earthy, fluffy dark malts too, smoldering log. Finish is dry but a bit sweet, little syrupy, long lingering smoke campfire, touch of barrel.

Mouth is med bodied, decent carb.

Overall not bad, interesting beer, smoke is the dominant everything overpowering almost, char as well, whisky is barely detectable, and it's hard to finish the glass.

Shared with JLindros. Had this in the fridge for almost a year.

A - Poured into a tulip a nice dark brown hue with a thin mocha blanket that fades to leave a thin halo.

S - Aromas of TONS of smoke here, distracting amount of smoke, the chocolate and rye whiskey are hidden by the smoke.

T - Taste is very smoky, again almost distractingly so. Light rye whiskey notes, no chocolate at all, light malt sweetness.

M - Mouthfeel is slightly thin but drinkable even though it is so smoky.

O - Overall I felt this beer was too smoky for my taste, glass to try it. Very campfire.
