Country Boy Brewing - Alpha Experiment: Mosaic. 7% ABV. 750ml bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled on 5/24/16.

Look: Body is light orangish in the glass, with minimal clarity. White fluffy 2 finger head leaves sticky lacing as it dissipates.

Smell: Grape, hops, and bready malt along with strong floral notes. Has a slight tartness on the nose.

Feel: Close to medium bodied, with mild carbonation,

Taste: Initially, the tart grape flavor is present, however is soon lost to floral notes, hops, and then finishes with the malty flavor.

Overall: I thought I already had this at the beerfest a few months back, but I guess not. Since always eager to try Country Boy beers, I picked it up the first time I saw it. As with all from them, this is good; nice combination of flavors with a great fruity aspect.

Pours golden with an orange hue and an off white head. Decent lacing left behind. Aroma offers a huge hit of some juicy passionfruit, kiwi, grape, and a hit of some buscuit. Flavor follows suit, it is definitely juicy and bright while only mildly bitter. A crisp, medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, hands down the best stuff from Country Boy I have yet to try. So juicy and tropical. Great stuff and right up there with West Sixth's IPA when it comes to local IPA's.

Like any alpha-dog would, only one can stand. And when we're talkin' Country Boy, we're talkin' hops! With one variety of such standing tall, this "Single Hop" series ale features the "Mosaic" varietal of the lupulin bine.

Without unveiling any of its secrets upon its pour, the beer captures a lightly hazed golden-amber hue that's innocent enough. The creamy and calm foam stance that ensues caps the ale session-wide and trickles with ivory pocketed islands.

Perfumy and floral in its aromatics, the beer's scent is alive with the sappy and drippy goodness of grapefruit, mango, passion fruit, lemon and white grape. Its tangy citrus, tropical and vinous medley captures the luster of Mosaic hops to near-perfection, backed only with the thin caramel and honey scent to imply a riper, more vibrant and zestier fruit presence.

Then its taste further opens as the early palate is greeted with those caramels and honey floralness. Its middle flowers with a bouquet of red grapefruit, mandarin, pineapple, mango, apricot, lemon and grape in the most tangy fruit-juice kind of way. That's except for its fast-fleeting sweetness that leaves its finish herbal, tart and lingering with sassafras and verbena.

Mid-light in body, the IPA carries and arid creaminess early that soon evaporates on the tongue and ushers in a dry honeycomb of malt sturcture that finishes lightly grassy, herbal, tea-like and with absolute dryness. So successful in its dryness, there's a brief emptiness that occurs just before its refreshing finish that keeps it from becoming more memorable.

Alpha Experiment Mosiac is something special in that there's few hop varieties that can pull off all the aromatic duties, flavor expectations and bittering components that's necessary of IPA. Yet it all happens with this beer. Country Boy's ability to exploit all those attibutes speaks to their craftsmanship. Great job Country Boys!
