I mean honestly it's not pretty. It's appropriate for what it is, but I just don't find like mauve/puce an attractive colour, plum juice involvement or no. That being said, it's perfectly appropriate given the contents of the kettle. Lovely little buzzcut of silky dirty-white foam gathers in the corners (corners of a circle, eh you know what I mean), leaving a smoothe galactic swirl capping teh liquid.
Nose is plum guts... not the bitter skin, but the meat inside... my mom has a massive plum tree so she cans a bunch of them... she cuts them in half then stews them down and cans them thusly, calling it "plum-guck." That's kind of what this smells like. No, actually... not the plum guck itself... but like the house while she's stewing them. That kind of permeated plum-essence. There's also some fermentation-tartness, but it's not sour to my nose. Rich and warm in its own way, I really enjoy its nostalgia.
Much more sour presence on the tongue. Leads in with a sharp, but not harsh sourness that is masterfully balanced with the full force of juicy plums. I mean, that's really the tale here. It's the sour of like sour candies... warheads are what keep coming to mind. And a balance of plums. It's simple, but effective.
The sour is more the initial swell, while the finish kind of cleans up smoothe, but the lingering effect is that tongue-coating that I sometimes notice with sours.
Urban Family does a really good job with fruited sours in particular, and this is another example of that. For any fan of the style, and/or especially fans of plums.
