2025 version
Very little, off-white/ivory head. Murky, caramel appearance. Cornucopia of spiced, semi dark toasted malt, sweet toffee, bourbon and a bit of butterscotch, makes up the aroma. Sweet tinged, caramel inflected, toffee and some bourbon, for the taste. Rather thin bodied for a barley wine.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a somewhat fizzy, one finger khaki head that dissipates to a thin cap with light lacing. Aroma of dark malt, whiskey, dark dried fruit, woody oak,and a little dry caramel. Flavor is dry caramel malt, whiskey, dates, raisins, hints of lemon zest, and light, woody oak. Medium bodied with light to medium creaminess. An interesting take on the barelywine style. More English than American, with solid caramel and dark, dried fruit but with light hints of citrus that is more typical for the American style. A little thin in body. The whiskey character is forward, but well supported by the barleywine body. I've been enjoying the hybrid English/American barleywines and this is a enjoyable one. Not as woody and oxidized as the Port version which I also liked.
