Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz can poured into my snifter. The beer has been in my cellar for a few months and is date stamped 8/9/2023.
The beer pours a jet black coffee color and seems fairly viscous. A very minimal brown fizzy head foams up about .5 cm and then fades to an edge layer. Very nice sticky legs on the beer when I swirl the glass.
Aroma is dark chocolate fudge and some roasted malt notes. I also get a good bit of whisky and dark wine and some fusol alcohol. No hints of any hop character on this one.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with very smooth texture and very gentle carbonation.
Flavor is similar to the nose with lots of dark malts. Chocolate fudge dominates, but I also get a nice whisky hit too with a bit of brown sugar. As the beer warms I get a lot more whisky and some warming on the swallows. A bit of sipping beer with pretty bold malty flavors. Never any hops. Glad to have tried this one it is pretty much what I expected it to be based on the style and description on the label.
