Our most balanced and drinkable barleywine yet! This year’s iteration of Treehouse In The City is spirit- and caramel- forward, with a balanced, crisp hop bitterness. Copperworks Single Malt Whiskey barrels lend a ton of aroma and flavor to this 13.6% ABV barleywine.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a medium to dark brownish orange with a somewhat fizzy, two finger light khaki head that dissipates to a thick film. Aroma of caramel malt, whiskey, raisins and a little plum. Flavor is caramel malt, raisins, whiskey, light woody oak, hints of plum and orange citrus in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A solid barreled barley wine that leans to the English style, but has some suggestions of lighter fruit. Whiskey barrel character is forward, but the malt holds it up well. Not getting much hop bitterness described in the description, but to my taste, bitterness should be minor in this style. Not a strictly traditional English barleywine, but a nicely caramel malt one with a few brighter fruit notes. Enjoyable. ABV nicely covered. I look forward to this Treehouse barleywine every year.
