Bottle: Poured a light hazy golden color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of light cereal with residual sugar notes and very subtle spruce notes. Taste is also a good mix between some lightly sweet cereals with some light spruce notes. Above average body with good carbonation. Easily drinkable with limited complexity.

500 mL green bottle, undated. This is a bottle conditioned spruce beer.

Pours a clear straw yellow, with a thin but dense white head.

Aroma is earthy and grassy, with big resinous notes.

This beer has an unusual but pleasant flavour. Very earthy with some wood notes. Resinous spruce flavours are present but not overpowering. Definitely some herbal and chlorophyll hints as well. Mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side and carbonation is moderate.

Very interesting.

Tasting with HogtownHarry and biegaman.

Pours a slightly hazy golden/yellow, thin white head forms, some decent lacing, okay retention. Smell is almost skunk, spruce, toffee, some floral citrus, sugary, pretty neat. Taste is sweet, some citrus, spicy spruce, some floral, pretty clean in the finish. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation, very refreshing and good change of pace during this tasting. Thanks for the treat Harry!

Saint Antoine Abbe, Biere a L'epinette. A herbed/spiced beer.
A bottle conditioned, non-filtered spruce beer.
Thanks to HogTownHarry for the sampling, 500ml green long-necked bottle.
A slightly murky golden orange in colour. An outside trim of head. An initially unoffensive aroma, notes of wood and twigs reminding me of a sahti, only before the spruce kicks in. And it kicks in heavily. A light ginger, peppery aroma, which really is just the spruce. Lightly skunky. Spruce really comes through on both the mouthfeel and flavour. Incredibly unique texture. Like an alternative to ginger ale with even more dimension. Flavours of spiced wood, just outwright spruce. Very interesting, reccomended just for the experience of trying it. Points for being very different. On some level I might even say I like it - only in a VERY small dose. Well, either way, it was among the most interesting beers I've sampled. Terribly neat.
